Grief

You will lose someone you can’t live without
Your heart will be badly broken
Bad news is that you’ll never completely get over the loss
But this is also the good news

Live forever in your broken heart that doesn’t seal back up
It’s like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly
Still hurts when the weather gets cold
You soon learn to dance with the limp

There was no longer anyone to remember with
Meant losing the memory itself
Less real than they had been hours before

They say time heals all wounds
But the source of the grief is finite
Worst type of crying wasn't the kind everyone could see
No, the worst kind happened when your soul wept

There was no way to comfort it
A section withered and became a scar
One can resist tears and 'behave' very well in the hardest hours of grief
But then someone makes you a friendly sign behind a window
One notices that a flower that was in bud only yesterday
Everything collapses...

Grief can destroy you --or focus you
If it had to end in death, and you alone
So much meaning it scared you
But when it's over and you're alone

You begin to see that it wasn't just a movie and a dinner together
Not just watching sunsets together
It was everything, it was the way of life
Answer to the mystery of existence is the love you shared

When the loss wakes you to the deeper beauty of it
The ache is always there
No matter the day or time
Just the memory itself
Is what you'll remember
