Chapter 35 | The beginning of the end.
I watched out the window, as dark storm clouds rolled in. No, it definitely wasn't storm clouds. Something dark, was rolling in. My eyes glanced over to the clock. An hour, until it was time. My hand moved across my belly, in a calming circular motion.
Through the storm, a gold light cut through the clouds like a knife. Abaddon was back – not a second to spare. I pushed myself off the bed, moving quickly to walk towards the balcony.
He stood, his wings still out holding a large chain link bag of sorts. My eyes flickered to his, we shared a solemn look.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
I only nodded. And he passed me my battle armor before taking off again. He didn't have enough for everyone, so only those few on the front lines would wear the armor. The information we had gotten from Ariel, Daniel wouldn't be alone. With him, he had Segal's whores made into test subjects by our father.
I hid the armor under my gown, as Lucifer appeared behind me. His hands were soft on my shoulder, comforting. I turned slowly, my eyes widening at his appearance. His armor, white and silver, spanned across his legs into silver boots leaving his chest exposed.
"That's a perfect shot to kill you," I hummed softly, pressing my fingers against his heart. A study beat, one that would continue after today. He chuckled, the sound vibrating under my fingers.
"I didn't put the other part on, it's tight," he replied with amusement.
That made me smile, "Well, this is a good look for you."
Thunder growled through the air causing me to flinch. Lucifer grabbed me into a tight hug. I froze, an attempt to keep the concealed outfit from falling.
"Stay with Calum and don't leave the bedroom. Kit and Karasek are on standby just in case. As soon as his heart is ripped from his body I will be back here," he ordered me.
I nodded, not able to lie again with the lump in my throat. No one would get hurt, I would protect them all. Off in the distance, a siren screamed. Both our heads turned, it was time.
Nothing else was said between us. There was no need for goodbyes; we would see each other again. Lucas left, Calum taking his place on the balcony. He was dressed in angel armor despite not being on the front lines.
"Are you ready?" he asked me.
I nodded, and he pushed open the doors for me. With quick feet, we walked back to the bedroom. The halls were empty – not even staff were around. No doubt they were either fighting or hiding somewhere. This would be a day hell remembered.
"I have to pee," I said quickly once we were back in the bedroom.
Calum hesitated, but then nodded. I hurried to the bathroom, peeling off my flashy gown to pull on the stretchy armor. I also noticed, my armor mirrored Lucas – with light, solid gold boots and chain material pants. The difference was, my armor seemed to come with a long sleeve chain shirt that seemed to be double layered. My heart throbbed, and my lips pulled into a small smile.
"Are you alright?" Calum called through the door.
I jolted, hurrying to pull my gown back on.
"One second! I'm pregnant, there's a lot of pee!" I stammered trying to hurry.
Of course, with my luck I moved too quickly and my gown ripped. The amount of curses let loose from my lips should have turned my baby into a sailor.
"Cloud?" The door swung open, Calum looked at me with a sense of confusion, before realization passed over his features.
"I'm sorry," I muttered letting my glory burn through my skin. The floor under his feet melted, then formed around his boots – trapping him in. I bolted – past my guard and towards the balcony. It wouldn't take him long to break free, so I needed to be in the sky before that happened.
With another surge of glory, the balcony doors shattered. As my wings pushed free, through the slits in the back of the armor, a hand grabbed me. I turned ready to shake Calum off when I realized he wasn't holding me back with strength, but with caution.
"Go after the rotting blood and not anyone else. Once he's dead go back to the bedroom. I will follow you on foot and make sure you aren't harmed from the ground. Be on the defense not offensive and don't die," he sighed.
I didn't have time to melt in the warmth of his trust. Instead, I nodded and he let me go. I took off into the sky, my wings beating strong against the sky. The storm crackled, and I realized with horror that it was the physical dust of glory. A glory that was beyond saving.
I followed the clouds, pushing past the darkness.
Sister. I stumbled, against his voice. When could he do that? No, something was wrong. How did he gain so much more power?
The battlefield was worse. I reached it just as my body grew tired. Segal's manor was no longer standing – instead rubble and ruin awaited. My people were fighting against dark shadows – more of Daniel's glory I knew.
Sister. You've come. He was mocking me.
I gritted my teeth, there he stood – or rather sat. In the middle of Segal's ruins, on a platform made of darkness, he sat on Segal's solid gold throne. I almost laughed, his black pants, and lack of a shirt was everything my own armor was not.
He was different too, his skin was almost purely white now, with his veins black as tar. His eyes locked onto mine, his were also solid black. He looked possessed and for once I was afraid. I watched with caution as he moved his hand. Something lashed against my wings and I cried out.
Then, like all good angels, I fell from the sky towards the world ofevil.
