Chapter 33 | Betrayal as sweet as pie | PART ONE
"What are we doing today?" I asked Lucifer. He took a step away from Saanti and Elliot to join me at the throne. He hummed lowly – thoughtful.
"I know asking you not to fight Daniel would be foolish, and I know you wouldn't want to join Kit and I on torturing a few interesting people," although curious to what he was talking about I turned my nose up at that; torturing wasn't my thing, "and I did want to focus our training on the Alpha's for the next few days. Perhaps you can accompany them? Get to know the people who are going to fight for you."
"You want me to get to know them," I was confused.
Lucas shrugged before walking away. I could feel my eyebrow twitch as I watched him saunter away. Beside me Calum whistled with sinking notes. My jaw locked in a grit. All day I have sat on his throne watching him converse with Elliot, Saanti and Elizabeth – even getting visited by Segal and Digget. Now he was just brushing me away?
"Awe, don't be mad girly; he doesn't mean harm by it," Calum grunted, and slung his arm around my shoulder.
I pushed it off with annoyance.
"But it wouldn't hurt to get to know the lot of us, I know you and Kitty are besties but what about us? I want to be besties with you too," his voice grew in pitch as he whined causing a wide grin to break onto my face.
"You're an idiot."
"Aye, probably. Come meet the squad."
If anyone else grabbed my hand and pushed past Lucifer to exit the room no doubt they'd find their head lost from their shoulders however, it seemed that my husband didn't mind Alpha Calum's brutes.
"Now, if I know anything about the two fox sisters – and I do – then Lacy will be in the foyer doing acrobatics and Irone will be slacking off her duty," Calum informed me, as we walked towards the grand staircase.
"Do they not care we are at war?" I was offended.
"Calm down. They do care very much for their tasks and they won't fail, however the way us Alphas act and the way instructions are directed don't always match. One of the reasons why we were sent to be the royal guards – from outside the gates," he hummed.
I didn't understand.
"You'll see."
No sooner did he speak those words, did he push me back behind him and was catching something just inches from his own forehead. A gasp escaped my lips as I felt my glory rise. A wasn't ready for the sudden attack but I was ready for whatever would follow.
"Careful sister! He's slower," The musical voice of Lacy however, threw me off.
I looked past his shoulder to where Irone stood on one foot on a chair with three blades tucked in between her fingers – I now assumed Calum was holding the fourth.
"Hey, come on I was talking to the queen," he whined.
"Which is why your reaction should have been faster. A second longer and she would have been dead," she retorted.
I was now starting to understand Calum's words. Anyone else would have been killed for flinging a blade at me – intended for me or not. The more I took in the scene, the less logic followed. Lacy seemed to be doing a handstand in some sort of vertical push ups with her tail swishing back and forth while Irone still balancing on one foot on a table also seemed to have been sharpening her claw like nails before throwing the blade.
Calum grinned before jumping the side of the stairs, "Care for a spar then?"
Another blade was thrown towards me. Realizing his mistake, Calum cursed loudly. However, I was more in tune for the second attack. As breathe left my lips my glory warmed the blood under my skin and flowed outwards.
The blade turned to ash before it touched my skin.
"Whoa, that's not something we see every day eh sister," Lacy breathed in wonder no longer in her handstand.
I smiled slightly not offended at the attack. My glory melted peacefully away and I walked down the staircase before pausing slightly to glace at Irone.
"No more trying to stab me?"
She chuckled slightly, "No your highness."
Satisfied enough to let my guard down I took a seat near where Calum had landed.
"That was my fault, my ego rose above my pride," he muttered softly.
I rolled my eyes fully knowing what a man's ego could do. Irone let out a snort before sitting in the chair and placing the blades on her leg as she went back to sharpening her claws with a metal file. The noise was horrid for my ears.
"How'd you get so close to Crazy Kitty?" Lacy chirped after a while.
"Lacy. Be quiet," Irone snapped gently.
My eye brow rose as I glanced at Calum, who merely shrugged. It was clear the only soft spot Irone had was for her sister, however I could see the curiosity in the room growing. It made me wonder even further what just transpired between them all.
"She was my guard and a friend. There wasn't a lot of people looking to fill that position," was my reply as I smiled at the memory.
"Definitely not how we'd describe her after she, you know, went insane," Calum told me.
The question must have been clear on my face because with a deep huff, Irone placed her file down to twirl a blade between her claws as she spoke, "The betrayal of her lover seemed to have broken the demon. So come trail day, Calum, Berthal, and I were in favour for Tizana to be executed. Only Kit and Virgeo were in favour of the prison ideal."
"She told me he did that because he wanted to earn her respect," I was confused.
"Tizana was imprisoned only because Virgeo spoke up. Virgeo presented the idea that we keep Tizana locked away and be the palace seer. Lucifer seeing how obsessed Kitty was with the demon agreed making her the guard. Tizana lost her mind having to deal with Kitty day after day for hundreds of years."
My jaw dropped, I couldn't believe it but for some reason I knew deep down it was true.
"Then why did Virgeo agree with Kit?" I asked softly.
"Because he is in love with her."
