She adjusted her dupatta and sighed at her reflection in the mirror.
She came back home yesterday, after two days of being admitted in the hospital and now she was getting ready to go to the park with Ruhi, Payal and Khwaish, who insisted on taking her out seeing her all lost in her own world.
"Khushi, come down fast!!!"
She looked behind at her sister's shout and exhaled before shouting back,
"Yes, Jiji!"
Glancing at her reflection one last time, she ran her hand over her yellow suit to sweep the invisible dust. Her hands traveled from her shoulders and stopped at her flat stomach, where her baby had resided for a few months. Her eyes teared up but as she lifted them, she caught the sight of her Parents' photo, besides which her ultrasound's photo frame was kept.
Her lips curved and she shook her head smilingly, wiping her face before walking out of the room.
As she walked through the corridor, she frowned at the sudden silence. Ruhi had been squealing since morning, despite this being a usual visit to the park and Khwaish had joined her to add to the jovial atmosphere. But now it was all quiet, as if there was no one around.
Her confusion cleared when she saw the Gupta family sitting in the hall, crying. Ruhi and Khwaish were not around, and the rest kept quiet, letting the trio cry their heart out.
"Amma..Babuji Buaji.." She called climbing down the bottom stairs, eyes scrunched.
Garima and Buaji looked up gasping, their eyes red with sorrow and they slowly got up from the sofa, followed by Shashi who gave his daughter a small smile.
"Khushi.." Garima rasped, running straight into the arms of her daughter, "Hamari Bacchi..(My child..)" She sobbed.
Khushi exhaled, looking up at Buaji who was crying too and then at Amar who shrugged his shoulders giving her a I-Had-To look.
She sighed again.
"Amma, Amma hum..hum theek hai..please mat roiye! (Mom, I'm fine, please don't cry!)" She requested caressing her mother's back and looked at her Babuji when the latter sobbed louder.
Shashi nodded.
Blinking back the moisture in his eyes, he walked to the duo and took Garima in his arms.
"Arrey, bas bhi keejiye, Garimaji! Dekhe nahi ho ka, bitya theek hai! Itni kamzor nahi hai humri beti ke himmat harr jaye! Ab aap bhi sambhaliye aapne aap ko! (Hey, enough now, Garimaji! Don't you see, our daughter is fine! She's not that weak to lose her strength! Now you also get a grip on yourself!)" He said consoling his wife, causing Khushi to quirk her lips in an awkward and tight smile, feeling her father's words hit her in some other way.
