Chapter 37

Alone in my room, just a few hours before the dark hour begins. I've set up a tin can as my practice target, I wanted to see for myself, how much I've weakened? With a deep breath, I gripped onto my blade and swung it as fast as I could. In perfect condition, a smooth clear cut was expected. But...... That's no longer the case.

The can flew and slammed onto the wall before it bounced back and landed somewhere near where it started on the floor. I squatted down and picked the can up. I bit onto my lips when I got a clear look of the can. I managed to cut it alright.......only halfway through though. The dented area is made by the wall instead of my blade. The cut edges are rough and ugly, this is bad. I stared at the hand that was holding the blade, it already starts to shake. Strength, speed, endurance........ They have all went down. Am I really able to survive tonight's operation?....... I have to, or they'll know.

"....... What the hell did you give Aki this time? "When the dark hour came, Shinji questioned me when we're all gathered in the command room. Aki was so focused on the paper in his hand that he didn't even realize that we're talking about him.

"Cables? I guess we're dealing with electricity this time. "Yukari commented when Fuuka finally found the shadow in the Mall. With electricity in mind, Aki became a must in the party, Yukari and Aigis was on stand by this time.

"Going with the original members of SEES? "Yukari asked.

"Are you sure you want me? From the looks of it, this might be an elemental boss. "I questioned, worried that I'll slow them down.

"Do you perhaps think that the shadow is absorbing electric from cables? "Shinji asked as he's an observer.

"If my prediction is correct, the shadow may be gaining strength from the cables, so I figure that it's best that we have someone cut them when we're all busy with the shadow. "Yuki explained as he smiled at me. Indeed, I am perfect for the job....... Or I used to. But, I can't go against the leader's words, what's the worst that could've happened?

I was wrong! Horribly wrong! Yuki was right about the cables, but....... I've overestimated my strength and underestimated the shadow. The cables are thick and hard, I can't cut it in one go!

"You're alright? "Aki asked me once the Giga Spark casted by the shadow dies down. He had been acting as my personal meat shield for the whole operation, thanks to his electric attribute.

"Thanks. "I picked up my blades once again and stood back up. Everyone was exhausted at this point, I have to find the main cable or we're dead meat. My eyes scanned the area for a possible weak point, then finally, I noticed a thick cable behind the shadow. That must be it!

Suddenly, the shadow screamed. It made my head spin, vision got blurry and unfocused thanks to that. The fact that I haven't lost my balance I tripped is already remarkable. I flinched when it show clear signs that it's charging again. I have to cut it before........

"For God's sake! Stay down if you're not feeling well, damnit! "Shinji appeared out of nowhere and pressed me down onto the floor. Startled by his sudden action, I fell onto my butt.

"Shinji! "I yelled at him. Why on earth did he stop me?!

"Aki! Cover us for a while. "Shinji barked. Aki didn't have time to understand what's going on but he did as he was told. Shinji squatted down and took out a patra gem from his pocket. He placed it in from of me and it glowed in a bright light before disappearing into the air. I blinked a couple times before my eyes are finally focused on him. The world is no longer spinning, I feel good.

"Don't stress yourself too much. I'm not wasting another patra gem on you okay? "Shinji scolded as he helped me up my feet.

"Sorry. "I apologized.

"In coming! "Fuuka yelled in our heads. Both Aki and Shinji stood in front of me when the strong electric of the shadows ran through us, shielding me from the elemental attack.

"Shinji! You're alright? "Aki asked when Shinji dropped his weapon.

"Yeah, just a bit paralyzed. "Shinji answered as tiny sparks still running through his body. Mitsuru was unconscious on the floor while Yuki was barely standing. We have to turn the tables now!

"....... Hey, you guys still remember our perfect combo? "I asked as I stepped forward, challenging the shadow head on.

"Oh, we're doing that huh? "Aki smirked as he stretched his neck preparing for round two.

"Tck, I have to be the bait again? "Shinji complained, yet he showed no objections as he picked up his weapon.

"Aki, bring down that agility. "I gripped onto my blades tightly and charged for the shadow.

"Bring it! "Aki said enthusiastically as he slammed his evolved on his head. The shadow had cables charged for me, yet I showed no intention of dodging it. Castor appeared last second and stopped the attack, turning the shadow's attention to him.

"Your opponent is me, monster. "Shinji said to the shadow. By the time I reached the shadow, Aki had already brought down its agility. With a main cable in sight, I jumped and hit it as hard as I could. I managed to cut it half way but forced to retreat when I was shocked by its strong current, making my body numb. I was right about the cable, the shadow visibly weakened. With the current flowing out, I can't make the second cut, but I know what to do.

"Shinji! "I shouted. He caught on fast and Castor was right by my side the next second and destroyed the cables. With that, the shadow was knocked down.

"I've been waiting for this! "Aki said as he readied his knuckles and Yuki commenced an all out attack. With a long scream, the shadow finally dissolved into black ooze.

I dropped to my knees as I can no longer stand due to exhaustion. I did it. The others celebrated for our victory. I smiled as I was too affected my the cheerful atmosphere.

"In the end, Stupei never showed up. "Yukari complained as we walked back to the dorm together. I tried to hide the fact that my legs are wobbly but Shinji still noticed it. He was considerate enough to hide it from everyone else, but I can't talk him out on holding my hand. Is either holding hands or everyone knows, what choice do I have?

"Wait! Something's not right! I sense someone! "Fuuka gasped when we finally reached the dorm.

"Is it Iori? "Mitsuru asked.

"No...... It's someone else! "Fuuka answered. I flinched, I had a bad feeling about this.

I was right when I saw Chidori on the roof top with a tied up Junpei. What the hell is she doing here?! This is not part of the deal!
