"Did you use the money on drugs?" Joslyn decided to be direct however, Amberle looked away from her, folding her arms across her chest. The sudden defensive flair in her action was obvious, but the woman needed her to be honest about what she used the money for, she couldn't help her unless she told the truth but it was apparent the girl was never going to do that.
Joslyn was annoyed but tried her best to be patient. "Amberle I won't be able to help if you're not going to cooperate. I need to know what it was that you used the money for,"
The girl remained silent but how she wanted to tell the judge everything, she was scared though. Sighing, the woman pushed back into my chair, she averted her gaze from the young girl in an attempt to quell her irritation. Yet again Amberle was wasting her time being stuck in her ways. She thought the girl needed her help, but she was wrong, she only wanted to test her patience.
"I'm going to count to five and if you don't tell me what you used the money to do before I hit five, I'm going get up from this table and head back to work and you'll be on your own," she said.
"One,"
"Two,"
"Three-"
Joslyn glared at her for a moment and there was concern written extensively on her face, it caused the girl's stomach to quiver.
"Four,
"Fine," Was all she said.
"I don't need you to be vague, did you or did you not use the money for drugs?"
"Yes, I did." Amberle leaned forward to whisper harshly. "Why?"
"I had to pay my debt off because Danny and his guys are far scarier than Stacy."
"So that gave you the right to steal it?"
"I was at a loss, there was no other way for me to get my hands on that amount of money."
"Okay. In what way do you expect me to help you?" Asked the blonde and the girl sighed, slumping her shoulders. "I need a place to stay and some money to borrow,"
"You've got to be kidding me." The woman tittered and the girl looked away with a scowl. "It's just until I can get back on my feet, please?"
"No, I'll help you in any other way but that. If you need a job I could certainly help you find one, but to loan you money and a place to stay, never."
"Please, you have no idea of the amount of danger I'm in. I need you to do this for me."
"I'm sorry, but you should've thought about this before you stole your friend's money."
"I know, I fucked up alright I'm not going to lie, but please Joslyn, you're the only one I know who could help, hell I'm willing to do anything for you while I'm in the process of paying you back," Amberle stressed and Joslyn cocked a brow. She never expected her to say that at all, she never expected her to be that desperate. The tough resolve she feigned finally cracked and the woman saw her true self. It was a girl who was honest and understood the severity of her actions. So she had the potential to be a decent human? All she needed was the right guidance the woman thought.
"I'll help you." Said the judge and Amberle shot her gaze to her face and the woman saw the timorous glow in her eyes.
"You will?"
"Yes, I'm going to because as much as I despise your attitude, I still have a heart. Also, nothing comes for free, you'll have to do a few things for me in return."
"Whatever it takes I'll do it," Amberle replied.
"Good, we can start by you not calling me all sorts of names, I'd much appreciate you just calling me miss or ma'am."
"Not even Mrs Harper?"
"No,"
"Alright," She replied and the woman intertwined her slender fingers.
"Secondly, I'll need you to sign something really important."
"Why?"
"For legal reasons of course."
"Oh, so like an agreement just in case I decide to screw you over?" She asked and Joslyn shrugged. It was far from that. What she planned would guarantee that Amber wouldn't even dream of screwing her over.
"We'll talk about it some other time,"
"Understood," Amberle replied, her scepticism exposed.
"That's lovely." Joslyn smiled in the face of the girl's uncertainty.
