"Yeah, both my parents came from families with money," Amberle revealed and it was the first time she heard the girl share so much and boy were they not what Joslyn was expecting.
"Why aren't they trying to help you, be there for you?" She asked rubbing her thumb across the girl's tear-stained cheek, realizing how much the needed the physical touch, the thought of someone being there for her left her tearing up.
"It's because of me, I'm the one who refuses their help."
"Why would you do that?"
"They don't want to help me because they care, they want to do it to throw it in my face, to remind me that I'm nothing without them, to remind me that I'm as useless as my parents, their little girl, actually following in their footsteps, what a joke. I'm a joke. I had to leave, I wasn't wanted or loved there."
"And Danny?"
"He was the only one who ever allowed me to be myself without prejudice at the time and that was so liberating," Amberle shuts her eyes to exhale. "It was good for a while, but it came with a cost. I guess he still wants me all for himself."
"God Amberle, I had no idea but why would you refuse the help, I don't get it,"
"Like Danny, my family helping me came with a cost and it's my identity, my individuality, my sanity that they were taking. They never cared about me or needed me Jos, I was only a liability to them." The girl replied.
"You living a risky life was inevitable anyway?"
"Yeah."
"But that's not what you want right, is that why you came to me, I would be somewhat of a walk-up call for you?" The woman was curious, she knew what the answer was but she needed to hear it.
"I need help, that's why I came to you. I don't want to spend the rest of my life being someone's property, I don't want to be a liability. I didn't know how you were going to help me but I needed to know if you could, I was only hoping."
The woman remained silent and Amber could tell she would soon shun her too.
"None of the things you been through in your life were your fault. The adults in your life should've loved and protected you. What your parents did had nothing to do with you nor should it have affected you, but I guess some families are like that, the thought of obscurity scares them. I'm not saying that what you did was right either, there were better ways to get yourself out of your abusive familiar but that's all in the past now. You have a chance to make things right in your life, the universe gave you a chance and you need to realize that," Joslyn glared into the girl's blue eyes.
"You're a precious girl and I want you to know that." She whispered.

Just as promised, Russell came with the cops and they went about asking questions throughout the neighbourhood about if they'd seen or heard anything during the night, but sadly their responses weren't useful.
Despite the events that took place Amberle and the judge still turned up at the office while her car was taken too a repair shop and the note written was taken along with a few other items to find fingerprints or anything that could help find the perp and perhaps lead them closer to this Danny fella.
Amberle was questioned on whether or not she knew Danny's full name and anything about him but told the cops his alias was what most people called him and she couldn't possibly know his actual name.
With little to no lead, Russell reassured the judge that he was going to find the son-of-a-bitch himself if he had too. Amberle gave him Danny's last known address.
The entire time, Joslyn feigned her bravery when truly she wanted to tuck herself away. A part of her even cursed herself for picking up with the young girl because if she was being honest, all Amberle brought with her was trouble.
Trouble she was not catering for.
