"I was being honest when I said that I didn't know who it was that tried to run you over today. It could be anyone that's looking for me that may have seen you as a target." Amberle finally spoke, she wiped her eyes with the back of her palm, her gaze fixed to the floor.

"It could be anyone, huh?" Joslyn repeated and the girl who sat on the couch wiping her nose with the tissue nodded.

"Why have you crossed so many people Amberle? You're too young for this kind of lifestyle, you're too precious,"

Amberle studied the woman, she realized she was being genuine with her concerns, they were written extensively on her face. She even thought she was precious?

"I made a lot of people angry in the past and I also owe a lot of them money because of the stupid things I did. I don't do those kinds of things anymore though I swear, Stacy was the last—"

Joslyn interjected. "Why didn't you tell me this from the beginning?" She glared sharply. "I would've known exactly what to do."

"Like what, not help me? I was afraid that you were going to react like this, scared. And then you wouldn't have helped me."

"That's not true, I would've helped you," The woman did her best to convince the girl and though she spoke with sincerity, Amberle had a hard time believing her.

"I'm sorry Joslyn, I really am."

Tears spilt from the girl's eyes again.

"Hey, hey it's fine. Don't beat yourself up about it. My job entails that I send people to jail, and bad people too so you never know it could be someone I've crossed, it wouldn't be the first."

"Or it could be Danny."

"You've never really told me about this Danny guy beside you owing him money."

"That's because there's nothing else to say, he's an awful man."

Joslyn grimaced. "It's alright if you're not ready to talk about him but whenever you are I'll be all ears. As of now, I'll have my friends see what they could do on identifying who was responsible for today,"

"Okay,"

"Do you want me to spend the night?" Joslyn was sincere yet again. "Won't your husband be mad?"

"Luther? No. He won't even notice that I didn't come home." She replied and the brunette arched a brow. "Why not?"

"You asked me at one point what's happening in my life to leave me needing this place to ease my stress, well Luther's what's happening. He and I are going through something right now so."

"Damn, did he cheat on you or something?"

"Yeah, multiple times but it was constant within the last couple of years and let's just say nothing has been the same for either of us since."

"So why not get a divorce instead of hanging on?"

"Because it's not as easy as you think, I have so many things to consider, like my family, my career. I can't just impulsively act, I'm not young any more to use that as an excuse."

"I'm sorry." Said Amberle.

"Don't be, it's just life, right?" Joslyn tittered. For once the young girl was able to see past the words at the hurt in her eyes and she felt bad for her, to say the least.

"So, I guess it would be nice if you stayed."

"Wow, thanks for not keeping me waiting." She replied and the girl laughed.

"Sure thing,"

The two women spent the rest of the night talking for a bit and then slept in separate rooms. But before their eyes shut, they thought of the other, they secretly hope life wouldn't be such a bitch to either of them. Then they slept, hoping their wish came through.
