Three weeks later.
The girl's nerves were getting the better of her as she sat in the excessively decorated living room, the house was big, another one of the man's vacation home or whatnot. Just the thought of seeing and hearing Danny again after months of being free from his grasp had Amberle anxious. Sitting alone with her mind running free wasn't helping either. She knew help was only a few minutes away but she felt alone at that point and honestly, she was; she was always alone.
The young woman was away from Jos for about two weeks in her attempt to make contact with Danny and she missed her. She couldn't see nor talk to her and it was getting to her although she knew what was being done was for both of their good. She still needed Joslyn and more than ever, she was so scared.
To calm herself down before seeing Danny again, Amberle allowed only good memories of Joslyn to fill her consciousness and indubitably, it worked. So much so that she didn't realize the older man stood watching her until he cleared his throat, that was when it clicked.
"Danny," the girl whispered, startled by his quiet presence. She clutched her chest, feeling the way her heart pounded quickly. She made herself small in the seat, so small she wished he wouldn't be able to see her sitting there.
"You look breathtaking, the judge took way better care of you than I expected." He stated slowly moving towards the girl with his hands in his pockets.
"Way better than you ever could," Amberle retorted and he laughed. A bone-chilling laugh that she hated with all her guts.
"Oh please, the only thing she's done differently is spoiling you. To allow you to become rotten and lazy, forgetful of all the things I've taught you just so you can be this love-obsessed little puppy."
"You're bitter and that's it. You can't accept the fact that someone's better at influencing me than you ever could and even more so that this person's a woman."
"Why yes, you've caught me." He pouted like a spoiled man-child.
"I am jealous. You belong to me, Amber and no one else, haven't I told you this before? Of course I'm going to be mad that some random bitch found you and has swayed your mind from me." He came closer so he could clutch the girl's chin. She pulled away causing his hand to fall to his side again.
"I don't belong to you anymore, don't you get it? If I wanted to be back with you what a way to convince me to come, by threatening Joslyn and lying to her about me."
"There wasn't anything much I could've done other than blackmail, besides she easily believed you were a sneaky bitch," Danny replied and the girl frowned.
"No, she didn't believe anything so the joke's on you,"
He laughed. Moving to sit beside the brunette, Danny lit his cigar and puffed until his heart was content.
"If judge Harper, the love of your life didn't believe a single word out of my precious mouth, then what exactly are you doing here?" He asked and she smirked despite her brewing anger and hatred for him man. The girl knew why she was smiling and because of that, he frowned. "Why are you grinning like an idiot?" He asked me and she chuckled.
"It's funny you should ask because as much as you claim to be a smart man you're not. Not only are you stupid but so are your little stooges. You guys allowed me in here without even thinking that I could've been followed or something." Amberle stated and his reaction wasn't what she was expecting. Instead of being startled and angry, he seemed delighted and enough to have burst into laughter.
The roles reversed and she was the worried one.
