For several days the judge was not in the right headspace, her emotions and thoughts were all over the place. Countless things she tried to occupy her mind with to an extent where she wouldn't be thinking about that stubborn, yet oddly beautiful girl. Each time she thought she'd gotten her out of her system, she realized how false that was. No matter the number of things she studied to distract herself Amberle always found a way back into her thoughts again.
Joslyn wasn't obsessed with her but curious and she needed a way to feed her curiosity and intentionally stumbling upon the young girl's Facebook. All she wanted was to see her even if she was the strangest person she'd ever met. Despite knowing the young woman was no good she still couldn't stop herself from lusting after her. She had a thing for bratty girls.
After a while of going about her life, Joslyn was disappointed, almost heartbroken when Amberle didn't reach out to her. The woman expected her to take up the opportunity and run with it, but she surprised her. Perhaps she wasn't an opportunist or any of the things she pretended to be. No, she felt like that was wrong, Amberle was but what kept her from coming back?
A buzz from the phone on her desk interrupted her, leaving her irritated.
"Victoria?" she answered listening as her assistant's dulcet voice streamed down into her ear. "Judge Harper there is a hysterical girl on the other end of the line wishing to speak to you, she said to tell you her name's Amberle and that you'd know who she is,"
"Push her through," the woman replied immediately, concern nipping beneath her skin at the thought of Amberle being hysterical. The moment the lines connected, Joslyn wasted no time to address the expectant girl. "Is everything alright?"
Joslyn wasn't an inherently stone-cold woman nor was she much of an emotional being either but her heart did sink significantly the moment she heard the girl sniff her nose. "Amberle, are you okay?" She spoke softer than she did yesterday.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," the girl sniffed.
"So why are you crying?"
"I can't talk about it now. Can you meet me in half an hour at the restaurant from yesterday, please?" She asked and Joslyn responded without hesitance.
"Sure I'll be there. You promise to tell me what made you upset?"
"Yeah, just meet me there okay?"
Amberle ended the call. The older woman puts her work station away, snatching up her purse and before she knew it she was out of the office.

There was a bruise at the corner of her bottom lip, assumedly from being burst recently, faded dark circles laid beneath her eyes indicating she had a rough couple of hours. A few scratches at the side of her cheeks also correlated with her being in a scuffle with someone, possibly another girl; Stacy?
Amberle didn't say anything much since the woman arrived but she waited patiently for her to feel comfortable enough to share what transpired. It was unusual seeing her unlike her loquacious self, it was a drastic change compared to the previous twenty-four-hour. Amberle seemed genuinely depressed and although she knew how crappy she was the lady felt pity for her.
"Amberle," Joslyn whispered, reaching out and clasping her hand around hers and her response incited the woman to retrieve it. The girl flinched at the contact, probably thinking she was going to harm her too. Big, round glossy eyes looked up into a chaste face.
"I'm sorry if I scared you, I promise not to touch you again, but please you need to tell me what happened."
"It was her," She stated after a minute of silence and the woman's conclusion was accurate now it was left to learn why. "When?"
"Earlier this morning, probably around four o'clock," Amberle replied and Joslyn frowned.
"Why did you wait so long to say something, did you go to the police?"
"You know damn well that the police won't do anything to help me. If I walked into any precinct they're going to find something to charge me with instead of hearing what I have to say."
"Amberle that's not true,"
The girl chuckled dryly. "It's easy for you to say, you're not the one who's always being perceived wrongly before she speaks."
"That may be true, but you have physical evidence that correlates with your story, they would've helped you."
"And you can't?" She asked gazing deep into Joslyn's eyes and the woman sighed. Scratching the side of her face, she contemplated what she was going to say.
"I can help you, there's no doubt in that, but what I'm trying to tell you is that going to the police and filing a report against this girl would make things a whole lot easier for the both of us."
"I can't do that," Amberle reiterated firmly. Her face was inundated by sadness, unkempt but still sexy hair fell around it, a T-shirt with an image of a cartoon character the woman couldn't recognize and damaged jeans. Looking past the exterior, Joslyn tried to locate what could be holding her back from speaking freely but she couldn't find the answers that way.
"Why can't you go to the station?"
"Because, I stole some money from Stacy and it's why she's after me, I'm unable to pay her back."
She didn't want to say she knew it but, she knew it. From the type of person Amberle was it didn't come across as a shock that she'd do something like that, the girl did a plethora of things from what the judge could remember, this was one of her more decent offence.
"How much did you steal?" The judge's voice was low and nonthreatening. "5K," She replied and the woman's eyes went wide in disbelief.
"What- Why would you steal that amount of money? How did you get to steal that amount and for what?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Amberle asked and she sat back just then allowing my eyes to fall over her. Drugs.
