She woke up to a blinding light that swallowed everything within its path, causing her to wince. Nothing but the white glow fogged Joslyn's vision and she mumbled her disapproval, blinking rapidly trying to cope even though it was painful. Eventually, her eyes started to adjust themselves and so did the rest of her senses, slowly but surely. The realization that she was in a different room from what she last remembered and also that she wasn't alone kicked in and she panicked.
The woman wanted to run but all her limbs felt heavy. Her constant movements must've alerted the person in the room because a pair of hands appeared out of nowhere to hold onto her, quelling her as best as they could. Joslyn could tell the act was out of pity and genuine care and before she knew it she looked up.
Looking down at her were familiar blue eyes, nestled in a slender face that she knew all too well. Jaime smiled weakly and she closed her eyes, sighing her relief, once again allowing her body to rest. She felt like a weight had lifted from her shoulders when she laid in the bed, dozens of thoughts from the incident seeping into her mind.
"Jaime," she croaked her voice was barely audible and that was because her throat was so dry and aching.
"Mom," the younger man's voice was tender.
"I'm so sorry." Joslyn heard herself whisper as the recent events came flooding back. The whole God damned mess of everything came cutting like a knife and she was so overwhelmed by it all. She had no idea that she was crying until Jaime came closer, wiping her tears away.
"Hey, it's okay mom, you're safe now." He said.
"Yeah, but is she okay?" The woman asked although she didn't expect him to know, yet his answer surprised her.
"Who the girl that assisted the cops in finding you? Yeah, she was injured—got shot or something but she's fine."
"What?" The woman shot up from the bed.
"Heyy, hey it's okay mom she fought off the guy that kidnapped you but got shot once while doing that, she's fine."
"H-how did she know where to find me?"
"I don't know, I'm just glad you're alright and so is Grace and Lance. Yeah and Dad." Jaime replied looking at his mother with questioning eyes.
"Where are they?"
"Outside, they went to get something to eat so I decided to hang around."
"That girl, do you know where she is?" The woman blurted out despite knowing that the conversation was nowhere near involving Amberle again. It wasn't that she was a bad person for having more interest in Amberle than her family but they were fine and she knew they were but it was the girl she now worried about at this point.
"Uh, she was admitted here but I don't know If she's gone or not, why did you ask?"
"No reason," Joslyn lied and she could tell Jaime knew.
"I heard she worked for you." He muttered quietly once the silence crept around them for a little while.
"She did."
"Oh," He replied and barging in afterwards was the rest of the woman's family including Luther whose face was imbued with relief when he saw her awake. For once the woman was more than happy to see him.
