Russel, the judge's detective friend showed up at her office with surprisingly good news the next day.
The idiot who wrote the note found in her car left his fingerprints all over it and was tracked down earlier that morning. His name was Hugh Garner and he went by the street name Dirt. The man was a friend of Danny and willingly provided the detectives with information just to save his skin."So this means you're closer to finding him?" Amberle asked the detective and he nodded.
"By him, you mean Michael Dawn?" He asked rhetorically.
"Wait.. that's his name, Michael Dawn?" She frowned at the man who handed a file over to Jos.
"Yes. This son of a bitch has been wanted for a few years. We have him down for trafficking, running a drug circle, rape, and homicide. This whole vandalism thing has been a blessing for us, no offence Lyn. He's been good at hiding until now," Said Russell.
"So, what's the next move since you have everything you need to bring him in?"
"Well, it's not going to be easy as it sounds, a warrant's been issued for his arrest but it's finding the bastard that's the problem, none of the addresses Dirt and your friend over here gave has been helpful in any way."
"So right now Mr Dawn could be anywhere?" Jos asked.
"Yeah, that's right."
"There's also the possibility that he knows you're looking for him, which means he'll get angry and try to hurt either one of us, right? So what are you gonna do to help us?" Amberle asked and she could see her question irritated the man.
"We took everything into consideration and I assure both of you that it'll never come down to any of you getting harmed by this asshole."
"What about judge Harper's family, her husband, sons, and granddaughter, are they gonna be fine too?"
"Yes, they'll be looked out for until we get Danny behind bars." The detective reassured and the girl smiled weakly at him. She turned to Joslyn, the woman regarded closely her the entire time she spoke. Behind her eyes weren't anger or annoyance, but what she sensed was affection, and it caused the girl to blush. Again she realized the woman cared for her in the ways quite like the way she cared for her. But realizing it more and more made Amberle feel good about herself.
Someone cared about her.
The moment Russell left the room, the judge called out to her. "Amberle," she enunciated the girl's name so perfectly.
"Yes?"
"Come," Joslyn instructed. Circling the desk, the brunette made her way to the woman. At her side, she stood gazing down into the woman's face but she held her wrist, patting her lap with her other hand, Joslyn indicated for the girl to sit in her lap. Amberle was uncertain if she should but the woman pulled her to her lap. Instantly, the heat from Joslyn's body burned into hers.
"You're a good person, and you're gonna be okay, alright?"
The girl smiled.
"I'll take your word for it," replied Amberle and the woman smiled.
The smile lasted a little too long the girl noted but it wasn't what caused the butterflies in her stomach to flutter, no.
It was the way Joslyn looked at her, with such appreciation and gentleness. She caught herself leaning into the woman's face because of it. Brushing her lips against hers, the girl wrapped an arm around her neck. Joslyn hummed against her lips and just when the kiss was getting good the door someone clearing their throat, startling both women.Standing awkwardly with an embarrassed look on her face was Joslyn's assistant, Victoria. Truthfully, Amberle was expecting both the girl and the older woman to act differently at the situation but they surprised her with their nonchalance, but she still stood from Joslyn's flustered.
"Sorry to interrupt judge Harper but I thought I'd bring these to you." Said the beautiful girl placing a file on the desk before leaving the room. When she left, Amberle turned back to Jos and frowned seeing a smirk on her face. It only proved that Victoria was aware of the things Joslyn did and walking in on someone on her lap probably wasn't unusual in the slightest and it's why she remained unfazed Amberle thought.
