"i'm coming over again tonight." debby says out of the blue, a smirk playing on her lips.
"i already assumed that." josh replies, his morning voice still present.
"what are we going to do?" she asks playfully.
"well, we can-"
"shh, save that for the bedroom." hayley stops them, while braiding ashley's hair. the group are currently sat in the library, supposed to be reading but instead are talking. ashley, of course, is the only one with her nose deep in some shakespeare book.
"hey!" brendon scoffs, glaring at her. "we were just getting to the good part."
"yeah, i was listening too." pete shrugs, cutting more holes in his skinny jeans.
debby jokinly hits him.
"hey!" he gasps. "you're gunna make me mess up my holes."
"good." she narrows her eyes at him, smiling.
"stop flirting with my girlfriend, you emo freak." josh jokes, wrapping an arm around debby protectively. pete oddly rolls his eyes and stand up to grab a book.
"that was weird." brendon laughs.
"i'm sure it was nothing." debby shrugs. "anyway, i'll be around at about eight."
"sounds good, debs." josh smiles, pecking her on the lips.
...
"so when are we going to meet this 'debby'?" josh's mom asks, smiling over how her son's smile grows whenever he talks about her.
"she's coming over tonight, i guess." he perks up. "if you wanted to see her."
"you're pretty good at hiding her." she smiles. "for a second there, i thought you might be gay."
"mom!" he scoffs.
she giggles and smiles at him. "i'm just saying."
"well, i'm not." he glares. "and you're never home to meet her."
she frowns. "i'm sorry joshua. things have been so busy at work lately."
he shrugs. "it's fine. you'd like her though."
"of course i will." she replies. "when is she coming?"
"in a few minutes i think." josh says, checking his watch. and almost as if it were a pre-written wattpad fanfiction, debby knocks on the door just on time.
"there she is!" josh grins, running to open the door.
debby stands outside, smiling and kissing josh happily while muttering their hello's and how are you's.
"someone wants to meet you." josh whispers, leading her into the kitchen.
she panics. "is it your mom? oh god, she's gunna hate me, i look like shit right now, i-"
"calm down." he giggles, tugging on her arm. "she'll love you. and you look beautiful."
she blushes just as josh's mom appears in the doorway. "hi! you must be the famous debby josh is always gushing about!"
josh turns red. "mom.."
she laughs. "i'm sorry, honey. but hi debby, how are you?"
"g-good." debby bites her lip. "how are you?"
"i'm wonderful. are you staying for supper?"
"we're not having supper with you guys." josh groans.
"oh okay. well, you crazy kids have fun." his mom grins.
"thank you, mrs. dun." debby replies respectfully, walking upstairs with josh.
"please, call me momma dun!" she replies as they leave, josh rolling his eyes.
they get into josh's room and both sigh heavily.
"i'm sorry about her." josh murmurs. "she knows how to embarrass me."
"i loved her!" debby laughs. "i'm sorry for being so shy. but i didn't know how to talk to the woman who's son i'm about to sleep with."
"that's true." josh shrugs, laughing.
...
"so what was that thing about on our first date?" debby asks, linking their fingers together.
"what thing?"
"the 'i have to be home by 10 o' clock' thing."
josh sighs. "oh, that thing."
the thought ponders through josh's head. would debby understand? should he even tell her? of course he should. they're dating, you don't lie to the person you're dating.
"you're going to make fun of me." he admits, blushing furiously.
"what? i would never." she giggles, poking his cheek playfully. "just tell me!"
he sighs. "okay, fine. have you ever heard of omegle?"
she tilts her head. "umm, yeah i think so. my friends and i used to go on it all the time when we were younger to tease old perverts."
josh laughs. "what? you're crazy. anyway, i have a friend on there that i like to talk to every night. we've just became friends like a few weeks ago but i really want to meet him someday."
she gives him a funny look, almost as if he had something in his teeth. and then proceeds to burst out laughing.
"what?" josh asks, smiling.
"you're joking right?" she asks, still laughing. "that website is full of... well, old man dick and you're telling me you met some guy on there and he's your friend?"
josh awkwardly chuckles.
"you're joking?"
he frowns before smiling. "well, of course i am!"
she continues laughing. "that was so convincing. i almost believed you. what was the real reason? you had a curfew, didn't you?"
josh shakes his head, smiling. "you got me. i just had a curfew."
they laugh together before she kisses him again. except this time, he's sad. is this whole omegle secret internet friend just one big ridiculous joke? probably. he should just forget about tyler altogether. but how would tyler react to that?
you're all i got.
he can still see those words in his head. maybe it was just a lie and he was just trying to get josh to feel bad for him. there's no way someone can literally have no one, right? tyler would be just fine without him.
"it's friday, you know." debby speaks up, breaking the kiss.
"yeah?"
"i could possibly spend the night."
"you totally could."
"then i will."
"and you should."
and she did.
