"my parents a-are going t-to kill me." tyler giggles, looking at the time displayed on his lock screen. it was almost midnight.

"i'm sorry, we should have left earlier." josh frowns, almost speeding a bit to get to tyler's. "i'm worried about you going back, ty. i know how they were last time."

"probably won't hit m-me t-too hard this time." tyler says jokingly, making josh glare at him with worry.

"don't say things like that." he scolds. tyler frowns, feeling bad.

"sorry, i-i was only kidding."

josh knows he is obviously very drunk, having such a low tolerance, but he knows it's definitely a possibility.

"you're coming home with me." josh declares, turning the car around.

"wh-what? why?" he furrows his eyebrows together.

"you're drunk. and they're not going to like that, nor are they going to believe you were at a party. i'll figure something out tomorrow but for now, you're safe with me."

tyler blushes and nods. "o-okay josh."

...

they quietly walk into josh's house, trying not to wake anyone who may be asleep. ashley and jordan are usually the night owls, but abby and his mom would for sure be asleep.

tyler stumbles in and struggles with the laces on his shoes. he tumbles over and falls onto his butt, looking up at josh.

"i-i'm sorry. i'm a little d-dizzy."

josh giggles but shushes him. "it's okay, ty. just be quiet."

"i-is anyone awake?" tyler whispers, watching josh as he bends down and takes off tyler's shoes before removing his own.

"i don't know. shouldn't be, but we'll try to be quiet anyways, okay?"

tyler nods and takes josh's helping hand to pull himself up. he uses josh as support to walk up the stairs and into the bedroom. he sits tyler down on the bed and lays down next to him.

"that w-was so fun." tyler smiles. "can we do that a-again sometime?"

"of course." josh sighs. "maybe drink less though, you told my friends that we kissed."

tyler frowns. "i-i'm sorry, josh. i just... didn't want to keep it a secret."

"neither do i, but i need some time to ease into this, y'know? it's all so new."

tyler nods understandingly. "okay."

"i'll be right back, i'm going to brush my teeth." josh replies, standing up and walking out.

he slowly puts a glob of toothpaste on his toothbrush and rinses it under the water before brushing his teeth aggressively. light whispers begin to come from his room and he raises an eyebrow before spitting and setting the toothbrush down.

he walks into his room to see abby standing in front of tyler.

"abby!" josh scolds, making the two jump. "why are you awake?"

"i thought i heard someone break in so i came to get you." she frowns. "but i found tyler instead."

"we were j-just talking a-about grade three." tyler smiles, looking at abby adoringly.

"why does he talk like that?" abby asks, tilting her head.

drunken tyler doesn't mind her judgment, and he smiles up at josh waiting for him to respond.

"he talks perfectly normal, abby." he shakes his head. "why don't you go off to bed now?"

"i wanna talk to tyler!" she pouts, gesturing to the boy.
