josh drives tyler home and stays parked in his driveway for a moment. he takes tyler's phone and types his number into it. tyler cautiously looks at the porch every once in a while, his heart beating faster than it has in a while.
"if you have any, and i mean any problems with anything tonight, be sure to call me, okay?"
"but-"
"okay?" josh says again.
"fine." tyler lets out a breath.
"good." josh smiles. "are we still doing omegle or are we just 'in person' kinda guys?"
"we can still do o-omegle." tyler giggles. "i like t-to think it's our thing."
"okay. how are you feeling?"
"uh, i-i haven't really heard too much from blurryface today." tyler suddenly realizes. "thank you for that."
"why are you thanking me?" josh asks with a chuckle.
"because you m-make him go away."
"well i'm glad. he should be scared of me." josh says protectively.
"we have t-to do this again." tyler smiles. "t-tomorrow?"
josh nods. "we will. i promise. goodnight tyler."
"goodnight j-josh." just before he started to leave, he remembers something. "oh right, this is for y-you."
he digs around in his backpack and pulls out a book, hesitantly handing it over to his friend. josh reads the cover; all my sons.
he smiles gently and takes it from him. "thank you." in that moment, josh's feelings became much more clear.
tyler nods. that book means the world to him, but he knows josh won't harm it. he opens the door with his right hand and holds his ukulele with his left. before he could get out, josh's hand wraps around tyler's wrist, making him jump.
josh pulls tyler close to him again and gives him a small kiss on the cheek before he pulls away, leaving tyler staring at the ground in shock, butterflies in his stomach. he looks back at josh with wide eyes and his lips slightly parted, a million emotions rushing through him.
josh doesn't say anything else, he just watches tyler leave slowly with a lazy smile on his face. what josh doesn't realize is that tyler would do anything to not walk back into that house. but he keeps it inside, and tries his best to not show the fear burning inside him with every step towards the door.
"where the hell have you been?" his mother scolds him as soon as he opens the door.
tyler shivers, looking down at his feet, sadly.
"it's nine thirty!" she yells. "you've been gone for hours."
fear forms in tyler's eyes as he watches the anger grow in hers. he stays silent.
"say something!" she groans. "you're going to have to talk eventually!"
"a f-friend's." he whispers, loud enough for her to hear.
"i said the truth. you don't have friends." she speaks bitterly.
tyler swallows a lump in his throat and backs slowly into the wall as his own mother closes him in. his father stumbles into the kitchen.
"leave the boy alone." his father says in a slurred voice as he takes another drink from his beer. "he was out with his boyfriend."
tyler gasps and his eyes widen.
"boyfriend? what are you going on about?" his mother spits.
"i s-saw him drive off. that ain't no girl in there." he laughs and hiccups.
"you were with a boy?" she asks in disbelief.
tyler shakes his head.
she looks back to his dad angerly and he laughs. "yes you were. i j-just saw him leave."
his mom turns back to him again. "who? when did you make a friend?"
tyler shrugs.
"friend." his dad repeats with a laugh and exits the room to pass out on the couch. his mother turns to him in anger.
"when would you have made a friend? do you have a boyfriend? i will not be raising a faggot in this house!" she asks. "tell me the truth right now."
"n-no!" tyler stammers, finally speaking up. "h-he's just a friend, i-i swea-"
she slaps him hard across the face, taking him by surprise. he has never seen her so angry. he's never been hit so hard before. he brings his hand up and holds the throbbing, red hand mark printed on his cheek.
"go to your room." she scolds. "you better pray for god's forgiveness, and don't come out til you're normal!"
tyler runs up to his room and face plants down on the bed, crying into his pillow. he wants to see josh. he wants to be with josh. he has never felt so worthless in his life.
it's too quiet. his mind wanders slightly.
"MISS ME?"
