"i want you to hangout with my friends tonight." josh speaks up, intertwining his fingers with tyler's. they sit on josh's bed in a comfortable silence besides the quiet misfits vinyl playing on the bedside table record player.

a lump grows in tyler's throat and he scrunches his nose up in confusion. "wh-what? why? they don't like me."

"shut up, silly." josh giggles. "they don't know you. hayley's having a fire later and they asked me to come. brendon told me that he wants you to come and well, i obviously want you to come too."

"oh, i-i dunno, josh..."

josh smiles and leans towards him, kissing him on the cheek gently. "tyler, i want you there."

it eases tyler's mind to know that he wants him there so bad, and he can't help the blush that fills his cheeks once he feels josh's lips on his face.

'o-okay, i'll come." he decides, smiling at the older boy.

josh instantly hugs him, squeezing his tiny frame. tyler replies with a small squeak and giggles into the embrace.

"thank you." he smiles, pulling away and pecking his cheek with too many kisses. "thank you, thank you, thank you, thank-"

"josh!" he giggles again, pushing the older boy's stubbly face away. josh stops and grins at him, the corners of his eyes crinkling.

their laughter dies down and they return to the silence. tyler turns up the music slightly once the quiet starts to bother his mind. josh glances at him and clears his throat awkwardly.

"so... about last night?"

tyler pauses and fiddles with his fingers, looking anywhere but josh's eyes. "yeah? wh-what about it?"

josh clears his throat again. "well, we kind of like... made out. and as two straight boys, it was probably the least straight thing i've ever done."

tyler blushes again and shrugs. "yeah, i guess."

"so should we talk about it or just pretend it never happened?" josh asks, looking hopefully at tyler.

"well, it happened. i-i don't want to pretend it didn't." he shrugs again.

"me neither." josh admits. "i uh... i like you a lot, ty."

tyler smiles for a second but returns to frowning. "i-i do too. but, i didn't think i was like... gay or anything."

"me neither, but it seems you've proved me wrong." josh mumbles.

tyler smiles at the choice of words, remembering the lyrics he sang last night. he stays silent.

"i don't know a lot of things." josh admits, scratching the back of his head. "but i do know this, i'm a boy who likes a boy, and that's all that matters. who cares about putting a label on it, love isn't exactly a choice."

"you can't help who you fall in love with." tyler finishes for him, finally looking into his eyes. "i'm a boy who likes a boy, a-and so are you. that's just the way that i-it is."

josh smiles at him. "ty, we kissed."

"i-i know that." he blushes, fiddling with his fingers once again.

"and if you'll let me, i'd like to do it again. maybe not now, but eventually. i want to."

tyler swallows the lump in his throat and nods. "i-i'm okay with that, i-i guess."

josh smiles and looks down at his fingers, taking tyler's shaky hands in his.

"i'll let them know we're coming."
