josh opens the door for tyler, watching the nervous boy slowly climb inside and sitting down carefully while he paces around to his side of the truck, closing the door behind him.

"well that was fun." josh smiles. "what do you wanna do next? lunch?"

"oh i-i didn't bring a-any money." tyler stammers. "i was in a rush to leave."

"don't worry, i was going to pay anyway, you dork." josh rolls his eyes, pulling out of the bridge and onto the road.

"no i-i wouldn't m-make you do that." tyler argues.

"a man always pays for the first date." josh winks, joking but not really, immediately silencing tyler. his cheeks heat up quickly and he desperately attempts to hide his face in his hands but josh takes notice and giggles to himself.

...

"okay, ty. what do you want to eat?" josh asks politely while they wait in line. tyler's mouth waters at all of the food on the menu and his stomach growls with hunger as the smells of everything filling his nose.

"i'm not r-really hungry.." he lies. "you go ahead."

josh rolls his eyes and rests his chin on tyler's shoulder. "please just get something. for me?"

"surprise me then." tyler blushes, turning away as josh's cheek touches his.

"go find us a table then." josh smirks, playfully pushing tyler out of the line. tyler giggles and sits down at one of the tables closest to the window, glancing carefully around at all the new blurry faces surrounding him. he hasn't seen so many people at a time in for as long as he can remember.

josh comes back a few minutes later with a paper bag and two sodas. "i hope you like chalupas."

he sits down across from tyler, and pulls out some tacos for him and a couple for himself. tyler stares down at the food in front of him hungrily. he waits til josh takes a bite and he follows along.

"so mr. joseph, how's your day been so far?" josh asks, taking another bite.

"it-it's been... one of the best days ever. o-or for as l-long as i-i can remember." he admits, shyly.

"same here." josh smiles. they take a moment to sit back and stare at each other for a while. it's all so strange to tyler, for the fact that being with josh distracts him from all the stuff he has to worry about in life, especially blurryface.

"i-i really would like to hang o-out more, i-if that's okay." tyler asks.

josh chuckles and shakes his head. "of course it's okay."

"it feels right t-to hang out with you. i don't feel scared when i-i'm with you." tyler pauses from eating his taco, taking a moment to really mean what he's saying.

"well i'm glad." the purple haired boy grins, genuinely excited to hear all of this. maybe josh can fix tyler after all.

tyler suddenly pulls out his phone and takes a picture of josh.

"what are you doing?" josh giggles.

"i-i just wannar-remember this moment so when i'm sad, i can look back at it." tyler mumbles, now overly embarrassed at what he just did. "i-i'm sorry."

"it's okay." josh reassures. "now finish your tacos, we have a lot to do today."

...

"why a-are we at the beach?" tyler asks, furrowing his eyebrows and looking at the water.

"because beaches are fun." josh simply replies, unbuckling his seat belt.

"i d-don't wanna go in the water."

"then don't."

josh climbs out of the truck and steps onto the hot sand, tyler now standing next to him, biting furiously at his bottom lip.

"i-i don't wanna get my skinny jeans d-dirty." he whines.

"you complain too much. live a little!" josh exclaims as he runs to the water.

tyler sputters, smiling at how silly he was being. he eventually follows him down the shore, instantly regretting it as josh splashes a wave onto his now soaking hair and face.

"joshua william dun!" tyler gasps.

"yes?" josh asks innocently.

"you're so d-dead."

tyler kicks a load of water at him and it soaks his whole upper body. he shivers from the cold water, but kicks another load back at his friend.

"m-my shirts wet!" tyler complains.

"then take it off." josh smirks.

tyler's cheeks fade into a shade of pink and he shakes his head. "n-no."

"why not?" josh asks, taking his shirt off. tyler tries not to look but he fails. of course josh's stomach just had to be lined with muscle and his jeans just had to be hanging low, so low that he could see the waistband of his boxers. and for some reason, tyler couldn't stop staring.

"like what you see, apparently?" josh laughs.

tyler snaps out of it. "shut up. i-i was n-not staring!"

"i didn't say you were." he teases.

tyler blushes even harder, cursing himself for always saying the wrong things.

"gotcha!" josh exclaims before wrapping his soaked upper body around tyler's dryer self.

"oh my gosh!" tyler squeals over the sudden change of temperature. "i hate y-you so much."

"oh please, you love me." josh shakes his head, kicking up water with his foot.

tyler stops laughing and sighs, not forcing his words out to correct him. it wasn't a total lie.

...

josh and tyler sit crossed-legged on the sand as tyler strums his ukulele lightly along with their conversation. tyler could listen to josh talk for hours and not bed the slightest bit annoyed. they always had something to talk about too, so they never got bored.

"sing for me again?" josh asks with a lazy smile.

tyler blinks slowly and rocks side to side slowly.

"there's miles of land in front of us and we're dying with every step we take. we're dying with every breath we make, and i'll fall in line.

a stranger's back is all i see. he's only a few feet in front of me. and i'll look left and right sometimes, but i'll fall in line.

no one looks up anymore, cause you might get a raindrop in your eye. and heaven forbid they see you cry, as we fall in line.

and then i start down the sand, my eyes are focused on the end of land. but again the voice inside my head says, follow me instead.

take me up, seal the door. i don't want to march here anymore. i realize that this line is dead, so i'll follow you instead.

so then you put me back in my place, so i might start another day. and once again i will be in a march to the sea."

josh smiles to another new song. he claps his hands quietly together as tyler puts down his ukulele and sighs out of relief.

"that was march to the sea by tyler joseph."
