The small piece of work that Shay let me read gave me all sorts of ideas. So the day I headed out to grab a couple things from the Cindie's down the road in the shopping plaza. After I make my discreet purchases I make my way home satisfied with myself. I can't wait to surprise Shay.
Just as I enter our building I see Shay standing outside of her apartment arguing with a older black man I'd never seen before. She is continuously shaking her head signaling for the man to go but he holds his ground arguing back with her. Once he grabs her arm I decide that it's time to step in and help de-escalate the situation.
"I think the lady wants you to leave," I growl at the stranger, stepping between him and Shay.
"Back off tough guy," he grunts taking a step forward balling his fists in anger.
"Look why don't you walk away and take the day to cool off," I suggest aggressively stepping forward, "if you continue to yell the nosy old lady in the apartment next door will call the police."
The man takes a minute to process my words then leans around me to talk to Shay.
"Bye sweetie pie," he mumbles through gritted teeth.
Once the man is out of sight I turn to Shay and stare down at her. I want to ask her who the hell that was and why he was here but seeing the fear in her eyes made recognize now was not the time for demanding answers.
"Are you okay, babe," I ask rubbing up and down her arms, trying to comfort her.
"Yea but I guess now it's time for an explanation," Shay sighs turning her gaze to the ground.
"You can talk about it when you're ready. I'm not going to force you to talk about anything I know you're not ready to tell me," the statement comes out and I see Shay instantly relax.
I kiss her forehead and pull her in for a hug. After a moment I say a short goodbye and Shay promises to come over later. I watch her enter her apartment and wait until I hear the lock click into place before walking away
I just couldn't shake the feeling that we hadn't seen the last of him.
