It seems like today has been a fairytale. The car services, the spa, the mysterious dinner plans. I loved that he'd thought of all of this. Especially because he did this just for me. I start to think of the various reasons why I loved this man.
He was patient, kind, and caring. He constantly thought of me despite what that meant for him. He gave me his time, effort, and undivided attention. Garrett constantly surprised me, taught me, and loved me. Hell, if he doesn't propose to me tonight, I'll do it when we get home.
We will have our damn happily ever after. I mean there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I will be getting engaged tonight but just in-case, I had the girls drop a couple things at my apartment should I need to take things into my own hands.
I wasn't going to leave it up to chance.
"What's on your mind baby," he asks pulling me out of my trance rubbing circles on my thigh.
"You," I tell him truthfully still smiling from the small reminder of our night together.
"What about me," he asks playfully.
"Just thinking about how much you mean to me," I breathe leaning on his arm, "I don't tell you enough."
"You don't have to tell me you show me every day," he reassures me.
"You're so good to me," I sigh squeezing his arm.
"The best is yet to come my love," I can hear the smile in his voice.
We arrive at a vineyard tucked away in a beautiful field of trees. I am amazed at what I see before me. I remember Elle telling me about Brice's vineyard and how amazing it was. Now I get to see it in person with my love.
The car stops in front of the property house and we step out. As we begin up the cobblestone walk-way I notice the rose petals scattered about to an archway leading to what I could only assume was a field of trees. We continue on to the house.
Garrett halts me pointing down to my heeled sandal. I look to find it unbuckled. I start to bend to fix it, but Garrett is already down on one knee fixing it for me. My heart is racing just from his light touches to my ankle.
When the sensation turns to a tickle, I look down to find Garrett down on one knee holding the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. I was literally so speechless I stopped breathing for a minute. When I finally nodded, Garrett began to speak.
"Shayne Johnson, you are my peace, My love, and My joy. I love coming home to you. I love waking up in the middle of the night and hearing you snore. I love that you love me. I love seeing you in my shirts. I love that you always burn the garlic bread. I love how you always check on me. And no matter what deadline you make time for me. You are going to be my wife, so I'm not going to even ask the question because you've already. But I am going to ask if you'd except this symbol that you have my heart, my commitment, my loyalty, and will soon have my last name," he finishes.
At this point I am BAWLING. Literally ugly crying to the point of no return. Garrett stands slipping the ring on my finger watching me super intently.
It takes me a minute to calm down before I can find the words to express what my heart feels,
The only words to leave my mouth were, "Well, duh, Lover boy."
I lean into kiss him and am surprised by a male voice yelling, "What'd she say?"
But what really surprised me was Garrett yelling back to the person, "Yes you guys can come out now."
"Holy shit! Finally," I hear Claire huff, "I don't know why we had to hide. We knew she was gonna say yes to this man."
All of our friends come from behind a bush surprising me even more. I am filled with joy.
"I still deserve to be asked out of curtesy, damn," I joke.
"She just needed a cute story to share with their kids," Elle cackles
"Ease up on my girl," Garrett chimes in, "She asked for something and I delivered it."
We are looking each other in the eyes, and I am absolutely sure I'm about to be naked. But before we could make an excuse to slip away some else comes into our line of site. The man just stood there waiting to be acknowledged.
The man was my father.
I was stunned to his face especially since our last encounter didn't end well. He looked good like he'd gained some weight and eating. I was happy to see him, but I was absolutely skeptical of his intentions.
"Hey, baby girl," he greets me. His voice sounds different from the last time I saw him.
"Dad," I know my voice sounds just as confused as I feel, "what are you doing here?"
"I came to show you that I've changed. Your man there set me straight and helped me get into a program. Even helped me get a job. I wanted to show you that I'm going to try to repair our relationship. I know I've been a shit parent, but I want to make it up to you."
"No more missing birthdays," I say sternly, "And when we have children. You will be present for every holiday, little league game, and school performance."
I release Garrett to engulf my father in the biggest hug I could possibly muster. Once both of our emotions were under control we released each other and everyone except Garrett and I headed to the patio area where Garrett had set up a catered dinner.
We watched as they walked away to get settled at the beautifully set round table. I turned to Garrett and stared at his handsome face.
"What's on your mind babe," Garrett asked.
"Nothing you've made today perfect. You gave me something I couldn't have ever dreamed of. I love you so much. You've made me the happiest woman in the world," I say wiping away my falling tears of joy.
"You know I'd do anything for you," Garrett finalizes his statement by taking my face into his hands and kisses me, "I love you and I can't wait for you to be my wife."
"I can't wait either," I smile meaning absolutely every word.
