I sat back in Alton's jacket pocket, studying my own hands.
"You okay in there?" I could hear Alton whisper from above.
I looked up, like I could see him but being in a pocket I wasn't able to see anything of him except for his hand that was comfortably curled around me.
"Yes." I said slightly low as well, not wanting anyone else to hear my voice and assuming he would be able to still hear me.I sat there for a moment, thinking about all the events that had happened, and now I started to wonder what would happen in the future.
It's considered normal to have family, a mother, father, possible siblings. But as far as I knew, I didn't have all that. I didn't have anyone. Maybe except for Alton, and Cedric. But I wouldn't really call it home. Living in a home is surrounded by people who care about you and love you, right?
I don't think Alton and Cedric would really fit in that category of family for me. If anything, I feel like a pet.
I'm restrained, locked up, I can't do whatever I want and I pretty much have to let them do whatever they want to me. It's not like there's much I could do to stop them. But, I'm going to be with these guys at least until my ankle heals up. Then what will happen when it finally does? How long will I be of use to them by all the testing or studying they want to do? Will they just kill me when they are done with me, abandon me? But, Cedric said something about humans being rare to find these days.. I wouldn't imagine they would just leave me behind...
I don't think they will ever let me go.
Or if something were to happen to me, the worse would probably be testing going too far to the point of killing me.I stared down nervously at my hands, seeing underneath them a way bigger hand that remained around me. It was my reminder of the type of world I was in. I was so fragile, weak, it horrified me..
if anything, it seems Alton was the only thing that gave me protection, a sense of security.I huffed.
"Alton?" My voice came out a little quieter, assuming he probably didn't hear me but I took a moment to try to ask for him again, debating if I really wanted to ask him the questions I had on my mind."Hm?" He hummed.
I looked up in surprise, is his hearing really that good? How good was it really?
I decided to just ignore it and ask him.
"What do you think is going to happen to me?"
I said at a slightly higher volume to be sure he heard me, but would be still considered as whispering.
I fiddled fingers.
"I know they want me for study but would it eventually lead to killing me? Will they hurt me again?" I looked down nervously.Alton's fingers shifted, his thumb coming up and rubbing my arm.
"My dad is planning to take you back to his work. By the time your ankle heals, there will be no other reason for you to be with us at our house anymore. They would want to keep you at the lab. But I don't think they want to hurt you, but then again I can't predict that or control them. They did intend to catch a human but they didn't really think it through if they caught a child. We can just hope with you being the age you are will encourage them to go easy.""Alton! What are you doing here?" A voice suddenly boomed. I recognized that voice all too well. It's a little hard to forget when they're really loud and you practically hung upside down in their grasp.
Alton's fingers tightened up around me, pulling me out of his pocket. The lights of the store blinded me for a moment until I was back in the shade, being placed down onto cold metal.
"I could ask you the same thing, Sal." Alton called back in a direction with annoyance leaking in his voice. His eyes returned down to me, holding a very serious gaze. "Stay here, be quiet. Hide right here until I come back for you." He whispered very quietly to me. His hand was taken away from me. His warmth left me, a chill now running down my back.
I had to listen to him, the way he was acting told me that he was serious. I trusted that he had his reasons for doing this.
