I turned over to my other side while I slept, feeling my consciousness return but not wanting to open my eyes just yet.I waited patiently for sleep to take over me again, but my memories interrupted.
I remembered Alton leaving Parker's house and we were on the search for a new hideout.
Did we ever find it?
Everything was still, no movement what so ever.I didn't feel Alton around me, and the surface I was on was different. It was soft, and warm. I felt a familiar fabric resting over top me, keeping me warm.
I groaned, not wanting to wake up yet but my curiosity was getting me.
I pushed my eyes to open, having to rub the junk out of them. Everything was dark at first. I reached my hand out, feeling fabric hitting my hand. I pushed it off of me, having a room come into focus that I never seen before.
Light cream color walls, light brown furniture, white ceiling with like a popcorn design, and a big bed with an older styled quilt draped over it.I pushed myself up to a sitting position, the little bit of Alton's jacket that rested on top of me slid off. I was in a big room, by myself. Where was Alton? What is this place? I glanced around, unsure if I should move or not.
Eventually, a door opened, startling me.I clutched Alton's jacket in my fingers, my eyes shot towards the door that suddenly opened. Alton walked out, rubbing his wet hair down with a towel.
His eyes went to me, slowing down.I relaxed a bit.
"Where are we?"
I asked a little quieter than I was intending."A motel." He responded, covering his whole head with the fluffy towel and rubbing his head down and throwing it on a nearby chair.
"So.. We had enough money to stay here then? For how long?"
"We had the money, but this one was the closest one, not far from Parker's actually. This place is expensive, even just for 'one person." He quoted the word with his fingers.
"It was late, no one was looking, sooo.... I just let myself in.."I stared at him, the words slowly processing in my mind.
"So.. You broke in..?""Wouldn't really call it breaking in, I would just call it...." He thought about his words.
"Welcoming myself inside by also picking the lock on the door.""I can defiantly see how you and your friends were alike. Lemme guess, when breaking into places, you would pick the lock while the others were look out?"
"Milo normally picks the locks but sure, whatever." Alton mumbled, sitting on the edge of the bed.
I pushed the jacket off of me, bringing myself up onto my feet, feeling a bit wobbly at first from the bed's uneven surface. But I managed to keep myself up.
"Anyways," I started, trying to change the topic.
"Now what? Hide in here forever?""Take cover here as long as possible. No way in hell it'll be forever, unless this motel was going down hill. No one knows were in here, so sooner or later, they might rent this room out. In a case like that, I left the bedroom window unlocked in case for a quick escape."
"Hm." I looked down, then back up to Alton at a sudden idea. May not be the best one, may not be the safest, may be just a death wish for me, but I felt something had to be done.
"Alton?"
His brown eyes wondered over to me from the sound of my voice.
"Why don't you just send me back to the human world?... Isn't there a way?"
Alton's eyes narrowed at me in confusion, shifting in his spot.
"Why would you want to go there?""I-I just thought it would make your life easier.. You could possibly go back to your home and pretend that I never existed.." I looked down to avoid his gaze.
"It would be harder to find me there right?" My voice trembled slightly. He looked at me like I was stupid.
"Pfft, that doesn't mean the best hiding spot is in a cannibal's stomach."
He pushed himself up more onto the bed.
"Clayton, listen to me. That world is lost. You haven't been taught how to survive in that world, so even if you were thrown into that world, you would die about instantly. With you trying to get out of my life to make my future better, that isn't gonna make any difference either way you go. Thinking about it, I was already planning on leaving one day to go stay with the guys. I would have left home no matter what. So know this is my choice, you may have sped up the time though.. But, I guess whatever. This is practice for being on my own."I rubbed my eyes and looked back up to him.
"So this is just gonna go on for as long as we live? In hiding?""For a bit, eventually if my friends will promise to leave you alone then we might start staying with them."
Oh dear lord...
"Are you sure about that?" I asked with worry."Calm down, you'll be fine." He laid back down onto the bed, reaching off to the side to plug something in. When he rested his head back down onto the pillow, he held a cord in his hand and plugged it into his phone. Hearing the phone buzz from the connection it had received from the charger.
"H-How long until that day would come?" I fiddled with my fingers, taking a seat back down in the spot I had woken up in. I wrapped his jacket that was left on the bed around me. Using it as a blanket.
Alton stopped typing or whatever he was doing on his phone.
"I'll probably ask them tomorrow."Oh great.. With the possibility of going to live with those boys, it gave me worry, it gave me anxiety. I'll probably have to still trust Alton's judgment. If that's what he thinks the best thing to do, then I guess i'll just have to trust him..
