Edmund had been there for me through thick and thin, but he never expected this. I didn't want to leave London, but he knew I needed to. I cried about it for weeks, and we would spend whatever time we could together.

"I promise I'll wait for you (y/n)." He said, holding both my hands in his.

"I wish we could just get married already, Ed." I sighed, looking down.

"I know, (y/n). But we can't always be adults like we want to be." Edmund replied looking at my brother, Reggie, who was getting the old pickup truck started up.

"I love you. And I'll be back by Christmas time." I promised.

We kissed one last time and I let my hands fall out of his. The tears in my eyes as I pictured a life without Edmund. I was too distracted by my tears and how much this hurt, to even noticed he had slipped something into my hand.

"Ready to go, (y/n)?" Reggie asked.

I nodded as I closed the truck's door. I looked out the window at Edmund and we both waved goodbye to one another. Reggie pulled away from Edmund's house and I closed my eyes, trying to ignore the pain in my chest. After the pain died down, I could feel something laced between my fingers. I looked down at it and saw a golden heart shaped locket. I smiled and then opened it. Inside was a photograph of Edmund and I at Christmas Time last year. And engraved on the back was: Edmund Loves (y/n). Always?

Always. I thought, smiling at the trees we were passing by. This wasn't forever. And in three months I would be home again. And I wouldn't have to leave. I love you Edmund. I always will.
