It was like any other evening I had known that summer. It was cool outside but in the best possible way. I had grabbed a sheer shawl from my coatrack and had run past the woods and into a small remote place I had found several years ago whenever my parents would fight late into the evenings of the Spring. The sun, which seemed a gray kind of shade began to sank away, tucking itself behind the water's edge. Within moments I was alone in the blackened evening.

I breathed in, knowing the smells of the flowers whose colors I could not see. I wished to see what everyone else could, but I knew I had to wait my turn. Suddenly I heard something, a rustling between the tree leaves which I just knew as sad shapes.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Is it illegal to join you?" A boy emerged and immediately everything began to melt with the colors I had never before known.

The leaves of the trees dripped a heavenly tinge of green. The sky was littered with specks of diamonds and the moon itself was a marvelous white. I turned back to the fence. The water rippled a marvelous navy blue. I looked down at my evening gown and realized it was a perfect shade of yellow, just as the honey dripping from the beehive in the trees was. I was moved to tears at how much of the beautiful world I had missed.

I gripped the railing of the fence and then looked at the boy. He smiled at me with sheer happiness and astonishment, as I am sure I did as well. He came to me and lifted me off the ground and into his arms. He looked up at me and then began to lean in. I leaned in as well and soon our lips touched.

His were as soft as the petals of the roses that my Mother's choice for my husband, Peter, had brought to my kingdom each evening. They rested upon my windowsill and sometimes in the morning I would touch my lips to them as I leaned out of the window to admire my small kingdom.

We broke apart slowly and we laughed.

"I'm Edmund." He said, without me even having to ask his name.

"I'm (Y/N)," I said.

"Do you come here often?" He asked.

"Yes," I replied.

He put me down and I placed my arms around his waist, hugging him.

"Is it too soon to say you're the one I've been looking for?" He asked.

"For other people? Yes. For me? No." I smiled

And with that, he kissed me again.
