Chapter Eleven.
one week later
IT WAS A pretty busy day today at the cafe. I was now on break, just sitting in the back eating a bagel and sipping on my now lukewarm coffee. My thoughts kept wandering back to the whole situation that happened with Gael. We haven't heard from him in over a week, he hasn't been answering any of our texts or phone calls. I just don't know what's going on with him. "Priya, what you doing back here?" Jasmine walked into the room, taking off her apron.
"I'm just thinking," I answered, breaking a few pieces from my bagel. "I just needed a little break from everything."
"Aw, boo," Jasmine sat in the seat across from me. "Is everything okay? I've seen that you've been a little down lately. You wanna talk about it?"
"I'm okay," I sighed. "I'm just a little worried about my brother and I don't know what to do about the whole situation. I don't know what's going on with him and I would probably never figure it out because he's just pushing me away."
"Sometimes you have to stop worrying so much..." Jasmine reassured. "Just have faith that everything will work out. Maybe, he's going through something that's difficult for him to talk about. You just have to give him time to think about things and you'll know when the right time comes around. I hope everything gets better for you. I completely know how it feels. Feeling like you're being pushed away hurts like hell. It really does."
"I just don't know why he feels like he can't talk to me about stuff," I shook my head. "We would always tell each other everything and it just seems like everything has changed. I love my brother to death and I would do anything for him."
I let out a deep breathe, "It just breaks my heart that he feels like nobody is here to listen to him. I can understand if he feels that way towards our pops because my father can be a complete handful but when it comes down to Kehlani or myself I didn't expect him to become so distant."
"I understand," Jasmine looked down at her hands. "There was a similar situation that happened with my younger brother. He became so distant from our family and we didn't know what was going on with him. My brother committed suicide two years ago and there was no clue or reason that was ever noticed."
Jasmine sighed, "I know me telling you that didn't quite make the situation better but I just hope you understand that everything does get better. I will never get to see my brother again and I'm now understanding that."
"So squash everything I just said about giving him some time. I don't know what I was talking about. You still have time to make things right, I think you should go and figure out what's going on with him. Because I know how it feels to think you knew what was going on with a person and to later find out you knew nothing," Jasmine stated.
"Wow, I'm sorry to hear that," I rubbed Jasmine's back as a few tears escaped from her eyes. "My prayers really go out to you and your family. I really appreciate you for having this conversation with me. It opened my eyes to many things and I'm really thankful for you. I don't know what you're going through but just know I'll always be here for you if you need to talk even if I'm not actually in your presence. I know I'm going through some shit but I'm always here if you need me."
