Chapter Two.
I WOKE UP from my nap, to see my brother standing over me, almost giving me a heart attack. I lifted up my arm, resting my chin on my hand.
"Why are you standing over me like that, fool?"
"Momma said you were asking for me." He smiled. "You missed me?"
"Not really."
"Oh, shut up." Gael plucked me on the head. "I missed you big head."
I rubbed my eyes, "My head is not big."
"Megamind," He joked. "Momma wanted me to wake you up and tell you to come downstairs for dinner."
"Gael, you can't be talking about nobody," I rolled my eyes. "I don't know what happened to you, but the pretty genes passed you in the family."
He started to laugh, "Come bring your ass downstairs." I dragged myself out of bed, making my way downstairs. I went into the kitchen and kissed my mother's cheek.
"How was your nap?" My mother finished making our plates.
"It was great," I yawned. "But, Gael ruined it for me." I glared at him, causing him to stick up his middle finger.
"You betta yell at Mama for that one, she the one that told me to wake you up lil' nigga," He grabbed his plate.
"Gael Reece La'branch," My mother shot her eyes at him. "You know I don't accept that word coming out your mouth, especially when you're in my house...Do you understand?"
"It just slipped out," He lied. "I apologize."
"Thank you for the food mommy," I hugged her before grabbing my plate. "I missed waking up to see that you had breakfast made every morning."
"Enjoy it, if you need anything. I'm going to be upstairs, I'm expecting a call from your dad soon so I'll be back down once I'm finished with that," My mother glared at Gael. "You better behave yourself."
"When pops call, can you tell him to give me a call, I have something important to discuss with him," I said, taking a bite of my food. "And, I haven't had a real conversation with my old man in a minute so it would be nice to hear from him."
"Why you talking to me like I'm a little kid," He looked up. "You should be talking to Kehlani, she's the one that's out."
"Kehlani is older than you, Gael," She stated. "If you're still living with your parents and still asking us for money then I'm always going to consider you as a child. And, Priya, I'll tell him what you said, but you know your father is a knucklehead, he forgets things so easily."
I shook my head, chuckling a bit as I stared down at my plate. Gael and my mother were always going back and forth over unnecessary stuff. I see things haven't changed since I've been gone.
