Chapter Twenty-Eight.
I WAS STANDING in the break room waiting to start my shift at work. It's been a while since I've been at work-- it surprises me that I still have a job. I just needed some time to think about things, my mind is still all over the place but it was finally time for me to come back to work---and since school will be starting back up soon, I needed some extra cash. I put my belongings into the locker and pinned my name tag to my shirt. It was great being back.
I turned around to see Jasmine walking through the door. "Oh my gosh, if it isn't Priya. I've missed you girl. It's been boring here without you." Jasmine came and gave me a hug.
"I've missed you too," I smiled, returning the hug. "How are you, Jas?"
"I'm doing good, I could be better but I'm doing good," Jasmine put her things away. "How are you girl? The last time I saw you-- you were moping around here like you just got your heart broken or something. How is everything at home? Kelani told me that Gael finally got in touch with you guys, that's amazing. I knew everything would work out."
"That's super good," I said. "And this is probably the first time that I could say that I'm doing fine, everything is slowly falling into place—there are a few areas in my life that need work but it's getting there and I did finally get in touch with my brother, it was amazing just to hear his voice...he's still not home though but I understand why he isn't---being home could be a headache sometimes."
"I'm so glad to hear that you're doing good and I'm glad to see you back at work," Jasmine smiled at me. "And I definitely understand that being home could be a headache sometimes, believe me on that one. I know it's been a few years since my brother's passing, but this has really changed my household around a lot."
Jasmine sighed. "Everyone is becoming more distant, it's like we lost the communication that we all once had with each other. It's definitely something to get used too."
I stared at Jasmine. Her life seemed so much harder than mines and here I am complaining about the smallest things. I couldn't imagine what she's going through, it sucks not to have someone there that you could confide in---it definitely does. "I'm sorry to hear that, but just know that I'm always a call away if you ever feel like you need someone to talk too. I missed talking to you, we have so much to catch up on."
"Most definitely," Jasmine smiled. "Now let us get to work before we get our asses in trouble."
I chuckled. "Let's do that." Sometimes I loved working because it brought my attention away from things that I didn't want to keep thinking about. Let us see how my day goes.
Jasmine and I walked out of the breakroom, it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be today. "Is Mike not working today?" I asked Jasmine, who was putting on her apron before passing me one.
