one week later
Chapter Twenty-Four.
I WAS SITTING at the dining room table, sipping on a warm cup of coffee. I had so much on my mind for some reason. Kehlani came into the kitchen and grabbed a mug from out of the cabinet.
"What are you doing up so late?" Kehlani asked as she poured some coffee into her mug.
"I don't know," I answered. "I just couldn't sleep, I had a lot on my mind."
"I understand that feeling," Kehlani sat down beside me. "Speak to me, what's on your mind?"
"Man, where do I even start?" I stated. "It feels like everything is going wrong. I know it's probably not, but it sure as hell feels that way."
"Why?" Kehlani asked. "You have so much going for yourself, and I can't even express how proud I am of you. Don't let one minor set back depict how you're seeing things in life. Things don't happen for no reason, they happen to teach you something."
"I'm not going to lie, I'm so confused about life right now," I said, at night my thoughts were all over the place. There was just so much on my mind. "I start back school in a few...how am I suppose to keep my focus on school when I can't even focus on what's going on in my life right now? I've never been so confused about life."
"Where is this all steering from?" Kehlani sipped her coffee. "Is this about Chris? It seemed like the two of you made up, what's the matter?"
"I think I made a dumb mistake bringing him back into my life this soon," I answered, I know this may seem harsh but I just don't know. "I just didn't want to lose the friendship that we built so I accepted that we should just stay friends for now, and then eventually we'll work on something more but I just don't know."
"Why are you saying this?" Kehlani asked. "He obviously means a lot to you for you not to give up on the friendship. Don't ignore your feelings, really express to him how you feel. Don't try and go along with something just to make the other person feel better. He hurt you, let him know that. You have a habit of holding your feelings in and sometimes that's not a good idea."
"Maybe I'm just overthinking things, you know?" I asked. "Like, did I make a stupid decision ignoring what happened? Should I have just taken a longer break to gather my thoughts?"
"You already know the answers to these questions, Priya," Kehlani stated. "I can't tell you what to do with your life, everyone makes mistakes but the important thing is to not make the same mistake twice. I'm not saying that you guys should just jump back into whatever yall had going on but I do see that yall have a bond with each other and he does make you happy, don't lose that."
"I guess, " I shrugged my shoulders. "I think I'm just overthinking things. I just don't know if I can have a relationship more than being friends-- I really wanted too but I just can't. I just don't want to see my self hurt, you know? He is one of the good things that happened in my life but I just don't know...forget it."
