It's four in the morning before I hear another noise again. It's my phone ringing, and I'm tempted to press ignore but then it reads "California Hospital Medical Center" and I answer.
"Hello?" I say. "Miss Leah Thomas?" The woman on the line reads. I sit up straight. "Yes, is everything okay?"
"I am just calling to inform you that Niall Horan was checked into the emergency room, and after contacting his parents I was told to-"
"Is Niall okay?" I interrupt, jumping out of my bed, even though I wasn't sleeping or under the covers. "He is currently unconscious, and very sedated. It seems he was driving while intoxicated."
She talks more, but I don't understand anything she says. Niall is in the fucking emergency room, and I may have put him there. I speed to get to the hospital and I'm able to make it there in fifteen minutes, rushing through the entrance. I see the check in table and make my way there.
"What room is Niall Horan in?" I ask.
"Are you immediate family?" Her voice is the one of the phone. "No, I'm Leah, the one you called."
"Leah Thomas?" I nod.
"You can wait over here for Mr. Horan until further notice." She gestures to the empty waiting area and I shake my head. "No, let me back there. Please." I almost beg. "Immediate family only."
"His parents live in Ireland." I say. "He has a brother here in California, though." She points to her little booklet like she has any fucking idea of anything. "Is he here?"
"No. We couldn't reach him, and you were his most contacted number."
"Please, I'm all he has. Let me go back there with me. At least until you get ahold of immediate family. Please." She looks up at me and I see hope behind her eye. "Fine. Only until immediate family arrives." She tells another nurse to lead me back and she does. I open the door myself and rush in.
Shockingly, it's not what I thought I would see. Niall isn't on the verge of dying and my heart didn't pop out of my chest at the sight of him, but it did float to the surface. He has scratches and dried blood on the side of his beautiful face, and his leg is in a temporary cast, probably broken and to be put in a boot. His heart monitor beats at a normal rate, but his eyes stay shut and do not open for me. The nurse follows me inside, examining him.
"Is he going to be alright?" I ask.
"He will be okay soon, he just had some internal bleeding that our doctors were able to stop. He is sleeping right now, he regained consciousness about an hour ago."
"He's been here for over an hour and you're just now calling me?" I snap. "It took awhile to get to you. We had to contact parents first, it's a rule. Then they told us to call his brother that lived with him, and if it got worse they would fly in. When his brother couldn't be reached, we had to go through his data and reach his most contacted number, you." She smiles. "Okay." I nod. "When do you think he will wake up?"
She looks over the clipboard at the end of his bed. "Anywhere from twenty two minutes ago to tomorrow morning." She looks up at me. I rub some of the sleep from my eye and move to the chair beside his bed. "Will you be okay in here alone or should I send someone in to wait with you?"
"I'll wait alone, thank you." I say as I grab Niall's hand and hold it in mine on the bed.
I feel like I should talk to him. That's what you do when a loved one is unconscious right, talk to them though they can't hear? "Niall," I start, unsure. "God, you're so fucking stupid, Niall."
"You have someone willing to do anything for you here, and cater to your every fucking need, and you didn't see that." I look down. I run my fingers along his, rubbing them. "You had to cause a scene." I sniff some of my tears away.
