"Why did you pack so many boxes?" I ask, lifting yet another heavy box and setting it down. "I know all of this did not fit in that tiny dorm."
She wipes her hands off on her jeans. "It didn't. Jared said he would come over and bring a friend to help us move everything though." She slams her car's trunk shut.
"I'm so glad to be out of that dorm," she sighs and takes a seat on the sidewalk. "And, splitting the rent with you is cheaper than the cost of living on campus was." I smile. It will be nice to have some company, and only have to pay for half the rent instead of all of it.
"God, Jared was supposed to be here a half hour ago, where is he?" She groans, picking up her phone. A few cars pull in the lot, and I wait to see if a teenage boy gets out of one of them. Eventually, a truck pulls in right beside us and an angry looking, brown haired boy steps out and leans against the door frame.
Julie smiles and stands up, striding over to him. "You're late." She playfully hits him in the stomach and he just hugs her in response.
A few moments later, another car pulls in the lot.
"Jared!" A boy shouts, walking towards us. His voice booms with a very thick accent. He wears sunglasses and he has blonde hair that is spiked up above his forehead. He takes long strides with his long legs over to Jared's side.
"There you are." He says once he reaches us. "What the hell, you were supposed to follow right behind me." The other boy laughs.
"Him? Really Jared, out of everyone you could've had help you had him come?" Julie yells at her boyfriend, making no effort to be quiet.
"He was the only one willing to come, didn't think it would matter that much, Jules."
"Yeah, Jules," The boy smirks.
"Don't fucking talk to me." She turns her back and I just watch in amusement, trying not to laugh.
"What are you doing here?" What kind of accent is that? The boys eyes trails over to me.
"What?" I ask, confused.
"I told you I was moving in to my friends apartment." Julie snaps at him.
"What's your name?" He lowers his sunglasses to study me. "Leah." I answer.
"I'm Niall." He puts the sunglasses back over his eyes and leans against the truck.
"Niall?" I repeat, he nods sheepishly.
"Like the river?"
"Not quite like that." He smiles.
"Where's your boyfriend to help us move all this shit?" I hear Niall ask.
"Huh?" I say, looking towards him again, thinking he might be talking to me. He doesn't repeat himself, he just moves his facial features.
"I don't have one." I say. He nods.
He just shrugs and we begin hauling all of Julie's things inside. Luckily for us she doesn't have anything too large that can't fit in any of our doorframes. Her and Niall argue more than once as we load things on, and Jared and I just watch and listen.
"So, you had this place all to yourself before?" The blonde boy asks me with a raised eyebrow.
"Uh, yeah, I did."
"Damn, pretty cool." He nods approvingly, looking around. They start to hang a shelf on Julie's wall and Julie goes back to the dorms to get the very last of what couldn't fit in her car already.
"God, she bitches so much." Niall shakes his head.
"Shut the hell up and come help me with this." Jared gestures to the shelf in his hands.
