9. Late night Revealations

Lily's PoV

I was suprised about James, very suprised. I needed to tell Alice and Marlene!! I watched the sorting with little to no concentration. I had seen 5 sorting and after the first 2, I lost interest.

 I looked over at Remus after Liam Zambini was called. I signalled to him that we had to go and help the First years. He stood up and walked over to me, I caught James staring at me. 

"First Years! Come here please!" I called a smile plastered on my face, I was given a big responsibility and I wanted to prove that I was the right choice.

I saw Ben Smith who was a ravenclaw prefect glancing at me, I caught his bright blue eyes and grinned at him, he waved.

 My heart fluttered. 

Then I thought of James, I felt guilty, But why?

I wasn't going out with him, I didn't owe him anything! 

I got back into the common room and started unpacking, After all I had my first patrol tonight, It was with Ben! He was really good-looking, and those eyes you could get lost in them. 

"Not as nice as James' though"  A sniggering voice in the back of my head said. I grumbled, James was haunting me! And it wasn't fair!

I showered and dried my hair, taking extra care. I wanted to impress Ben, my red curls flowed down my back reaching my waist. My green eyes gleaming, that was one think I liked about myself. My green eyes. 

Eight O'Clock rolled around way to quickly for my liking.  I adjusted my uniform one last time and asked Alice and Marlene how I looked. After being assured I looked nice, well as nice as you can look in a school uniform. I clambered out of the portrait and bumped straight into Ben.

"OW! Sorry Ben! Are you ok?" I asked blushing as Ben helped me of the floor.

"Perfect, better now your here actually" He replied making me even redder if that was possible.

"Awwww! Should be get going?" I ask, we walked around enjoying light conversation and then we drew the night to a close, he walked me back to my common room. He was a proper Gentleman!

"Lily, I know we don't know each other that well, but I was wondering if you would come to Hogmeade with me?" Anticipation exploring his voice.

My lips curve into a huge grin, "Of course. Night Ben!" I call while turning to walk into the portrait.

I wish I could say that to James, I wish it was him who asked me.

I ran up into my dorm and spilled everything to my best friends, I slept more soundly than I have in ages .

Hogsmeade was only a week a way!

James'  PoV

My thoughts were filled with Lily as usual, but something was different. I was realising how I was never going to get her. The top of the Gryffindor tower was a great place to think. Only me, Moony,  Wormtail and Padfoot knew how to get up here. I looked out over the night sky.

A tear rolls down my cheek, that was only the start. I put a silencing charm and pulled my invisibility cloak over myself.

That was my moment of weakness, I vowed to never  ask Lily Evans out again. I had given up.

We can be friends, friends with Evans, nothing more.

I came down after most of the noise had died down in the common room. I undid the silencing charm and greeted my mates like nothing was wrong. We started planning our pranks, I urged for padfoot to make them harmless.

I wasn't in the mood.

I slipped into my bed and turned on my side, facing the wall. I fell into an uneasy sleep.

Lily was in my dreams, she was kissing old snivelly.

"He's much better than you! You're ugly James Potter! I HATE YOU!! AND I WILL NEVER GO OUT WITH YOU!!" She screamed at my, snivellus was laughing at me his arm around Lily protectively.

Padfoot woke me up, shaking me concern was etched on his face. I was told that I was yelling stop and that I was screaming. And I was crying...

Of course Padfoot wanted to know what it was about. I told him to put a silencing charm around my bed, he shut the curtains and sat next to me.

"It was Lily," my voice cracked, "she was telling me how much she hated me, snivelly was there as well, he was with Lily" I put my head between my hands and looked up at my best friend.

"I love her Sirius, I really do" I whispered barely audible.

"Well mate... You don't have to worry about snivelly. She's going to Hogsmeade with Ben Smith.. Sorry"

"As long as she's happy. Now mate get of my bed and let me sleep" I laugh while pointing at my alarm clock which reads 22:23

I recite to myself as I fall back to sleep.
