16. Thank you

Lily's PoV

I dashed up the stairs to my dormitry, I slipped in through the heavy wooden door and then realisation dawned on me. The smile dropped of my face, tears pooled in my emerald eyes and a wail escaped my mouth.

It wasn't lte to Marlene and alice were still awake and turned to me, ignoring the homework that was sat on their laps

"Lily, what's wrong?" Alice asked calmly while she and Marlene got off of their beds and made their way over to me. Marlene put her arm around me and lead me to my bed.

"B - Ben, he, he kissed Cassandra Toadburn, and we broke up" I weep, thoughts twirled around my head. " A - A - And I'm confused b - bec - because" I cry harder. I take a deep breath and continue.

"James and zoe broke up as well, because zoe wanted him to choose between me and her and he picked me. We held hands on the way back and then when we were saying goodnight, I - Ikissedjamesonthecheek" I mumble the last part

"What did you say?" Marlene asks

" I kissed James on the cheek" Alice and Marlene exchange secretive glances and I continue my speech, " And I'm confused because, I just got out of a relationship and I don't know if he actually likes me or not but I like him and I have for a while even though I was in a relationship." I finish off with a loud sigh

"Well, it sounds like you really like him, but don't rush into anything too soon, become closer to him, like get to be his friend. Then you'll know what you really want" Marlene concludes.

"Yeah, think about it for a few days, you probably just want someone to support you right now, you want to be conforted" Alice chirps in, "And judging by your mood swings, it's your time of the month" She jokes

Marlene and I start to laugh. 

" You're not wrong alice" I contribute laughing along with my best friends. I glance at the clock and it says 10:59

"Maybe we should go to bed?" I add while nodding towards the clock. It's not as if we needed to though, it was a Saturday tomorrow, so we didn't have any classes to worry about.

We climbed into bed and I turned the lights off

"Thank you" I whisper into the darkness, unsure whether the girls can hear me or not, but it still comforts me knowing that I said it

We say our goodnights and fall asleep.

James PoV

I stand in the common room dumbstruck, I press my tanned finger to my cheek and stare at the space lily just vacated. A ghost of a smile lingers on my face and my heart flutters in my chest.

Wormtail and Padfoot were out pranking someone and I knew Moony would be in our bedroom, he was the perfect maurader for this. Remus was always good with this, like he was the person you would talk to if you needed advice or a heart to heart. Remus was quiet and just deep and meaningful. He was just Remus.

But he's our Remus and I needed advice right now, so without wasting anymore time I hurried into our bedroom and sat on my bed

"Moony?" I start, "I need advice"

"Sure." He replies and comes to sit on my bed. "What is it you need help with? Lily, I assume" He already knew why I needed advice, just perfect.

"Yeah" I explain to him what happened after he left and how I picked Lily out of her and Zoe. I told him all about how we walked back hand in hand, and how we entered the common room

"I said 'goodnight' and called her lily," a dreamy smile crossed my face just recounting the memory, "Then she leant up and kissed me on the cheek and she called me James as well!" I say while glee overtook my body. I sigh.

"But I'm confused, she's just broken up with her boyfriend and I've just broken up with my girlfriend. I don't want to rush into anything, I don't want to destroy what's there but then I don't want to miss my chance"

"Well James, you've matured a lot, you now realise what you didn't last year. Lily's feelings. You don't want for her to get hurt because of you, I know what you mean. Be her friend for a bit, but do sweet things for her, like hold the door for her. Try to spend some time with her. Study with her, ask if she wants to go for a walk around the lake with you, or on an evening or morning stroll. But don't pressure her, she won't like that. Don't take advantage of her feelings but don't act oblivious to them" He respond with a kind look on his face.

"Thanks Remus" 

"It's fine" Remus responds nonchalantly while gazing out of the window

"No, Remus, thank you. I don't think you realise how amazing you are, and how much I, and Sirius and Peter, love and appreciate you. You're always there and ready to give out the best advice. Thank you" I say while tears gathered in my eyes, tears were streaming down Moony's face

"Thank you, for accepting me, for always being there for me, when you found out about me being a werewolf, during the full moon, just always. You're such a good friend" 

I engulfed him in a hug and patted his back.

"We're not friends, we're family, brothers even" I whisper

Peter and Sirius walk in with devilish smiles across their faces

"Come here" I say

They walk over and join the hug, we just sit there for God knows how long, just sat in silence, appreciating each other. I broke the silence.

"Thank you. You three are the best friends I've ever had. We're brothers, and I love you and I would do anything for any off you. Thank you brothers" I conclude

"I love you all" Everyone whispers into the darkness. We head to bed and we all knew how appreciated and loved we were by the brothers that weren't related to us by blood, but by a friendship so strong nothing could break it.
