By the end of the day, Vanessa and Lily had done all sorts of things together. They had gone out shopping, they'd gone to the park - everything. Lily had done her best to make her friend happy, and so far - it seemed as though she were doing a fine job.

At present moment, the two young ladies were seated in a small, quiet restaurant. The afternoon sky was dark, indicating that it was going to rain.

"So, did you enjoy today?" Lily questioned as she took a bite of her burger. Vanessa's sandwich remained untouched.

"I did," Vanessa smiled softly. "Thanks, Lily, for everything," she sighed.

Lily stared at the young girl for a moment before setting her burger down, raising an eyebrow.

"Are you thinking about Michael?"

"What?" Vanessa's eyes widened. "N-No,"

"Quit lying, Vanessa," Lily shook her head. "Listen, I know that you love Michael - but you can't keep on being upset. It's your birthday,"

"I know," Vanessa bit her lip. "But...never mind that," she inhaled deeply. "It looks like it's going to rain, so I should get home,"

Lily nodded, still concerned for her friend.

"I'll take you home,"

"Bye!" Lily waved as she drove off, leaving Vanessa at the door. She laughed for a moment before turning around to open the door to her flat. She walked in before shutting the door.

With a sigh, she walked into the living room - only to be startled when she saw a plethora of gift bags, and balloons - located on the small sofa.

Suddenly, she felt someone touch her shoulder from behind - making her turn around with a gasp. Michael, her loving boyfriend, stood there with a sad look on his face. Vanessa's blood began to boil.

"Vanessa..." Michael trailed off.

"I can't believe you forgot my birthday!" she exclaimed, her eyes tearing up.

"Please, I'm sorry," he whispered. "I know that it was wrong of me to forget but...I've just been so busy - and work-"

"You didn't care enough to remember," Vanessa breathed, letting the tears stream down her face. Michael took a step forward, moving closer to her.

"It's not like that," he closed his eyes briefly before opening them again. "Vanessa, trust me, I hate myself for not remembering - but I want to make it up to you,"

"You can't," she muttered. "It's too late," with that, she walked out of the flat.

Vanessa had decided to go to the park, a place that held so much positivity. The area was empty, so it gave her space to think. The rain had begun to fall, and now the young lady was drenched. It had been about half an hour since Vanessa left the house, and she couldn't stop thinking about Michael.

With her hands shoved into the pockets of her coat, she walked along the soft grass.

Suddenly, she heard someone approaching from behind. Turning around, her eyes widened when she saw Michael. He didn't have an umbrella, so he was getting wet as well.

Vanessa stared at him, an expectant look on her face. Several moments of silence passed by as the two stared at each other.

"Vanessa," he breathed. "I love you, so much. And I know that I forgot your birthday, but that doesn't change the way I feel for you," he bit his lip. "You had said that I didn't care enough to remember," he studied Vanessa's features. "But the truth is..I love you more than you'll ever know - and I'm willing to prove that to you," he got down on one knee, fishing out a small, blue velvet box from the pocket of his pants.

Vanessa's eyes widened, and her heart began to race.

"I know I've let you down so many times," he laughed a bit. "But I promise to be a better man, and I can only do that if you're by my side," he shook his head. "I promise to focus on you, and only you," he broke into a small grin. "Will you marry me?"

All Vanessa could do, was stare at the man she adored. He was asking her to be his wife, and she was overwhelmed. She loved him, and she was willing to forgive him. She needed him, just like he needed her.

"Yes,"
