Krys

I return to school quickly after puking. Luckily, I don’t get teased much being that lots of kids were puking. May told me one girl named Rose puked on her teacher. “I feel sorry for her.” I say with sympathy after May tells me. We’re at lunch with Steve and Hunter. It seems as though it’s routine to sit with them. May seems to like that. “I feel sorry for that teacher.” Hunter remarks. I nod. “I heard he didn’t even get sick after that.” Steve informs us. I remember the water fountain theory and the nurse defensively shooting that theory down. Interesting. “That’s strange.” May exclaims. “Perhaps it’s just a sickness he already has as a kid. You can’t get the same sickness twice.” Steve begins. For a while, we let him go on about how your antibodies form to fight something once and are ready to fight again so you won’t get sick. I zone out and think about how sketchy everything seems. I didn’t even feel sick after puking. It seemed as though there was something in the water. “Hey May,” Steve begins nervously after finishing his science lesson. “Yeah?” she asks with wide eyes. “Do you maybe . . .want to . . . you know . . .” Beads of sweat break out on his forehead. Something interesting for once! “Hang out with me after school?” he asks quickly. May grins. “Sounds great.” She replies. “Meet me outside the library today?” Steve asks gallantly. “Sure.” May agrees.

After they leave the lunch room, I’m about to follow them when Hunter grabs my arm. “Krys,” he begins hopefully. “What?” I ask annoyed, pulling my arm away. Hunter was an immature liar. I didn’t like him that much. “We should follow them. I wanna see where this little love train leads.” He plots. “You don’t need me to come.” I point out. “Yeah but it’d look less suspicious.” he insists. In all honesty, I’m curious too and have nothing better to do after school. “Fine. Just don’t do something stupid.” I flash him an evil grin. He scowls at me and thinks. “No promises.” He runs out of the lunch room.

After classes end, I meet Hunter in the shared wing. He’s waiting for me looking mischievous as usual. “Krys!” He cheers happily when he sees me. “Oh God. Who’d ever suspect I’d get stuck doing something with you.” I exclaim rolling my eyes. “Shut up. Here comes Steve,” He points to Steve who’s walking to the library entrance. “I’m surprised May isn’t already waiting for him with flowers and chocolates.” I remark. “Why?” Hunter asks curiously. “She’s been crazy about him since elementary school.” I inform him. “Look. There she is now!” I point to her. She runs over to the library door up to Steve. At this point, it looks as though the four of us are the only students left in the school. All the other kids rush to get home on Friday. “Let’s go to the cafeteria in the high school.” Steve suggests. “Sounds great.” May’s voice is eager. We follow them into the high school. It seems as though only Steve knows his way around the high school because May follows him closely. Eventually, Hunter stops to take a bathroom break. I wait for him outside the door of the boys’ room. I look to see Steve and May are no longer in my vision. “Shoot! Thanks to you we lost them!” I shout to him through the door. “You should’ve done something to stop them!” he calls angrily through the door. “Oh! So this is my fault?” I turn and take a peek into the bathroom. I see a blue tile wall and gray stalls. “Of course!” Hunter’s voice yells though one of the stalls. That’s it! I think walking away from the bathroom.

I storm down empty hallways feeling dumb for wasting my Friday afternoon stalking people with someone as stupid as Hunter. Walking down the halls not watching where I’m going, I crash into a boy. We knock each other down. He drops his backpack. I look at him. He's small and skinny. He’s shirt is big and lose. His hair is pushed back. He has huge hazel eyes that sparkle in the light. “Watch it!” he yells as he turns to look at me. The pupils in his eyes shrink and his face turns red when we make eye contact. I stand up and look down at him. He stands up quickly. I realize I’m taller than he is. “I’m Matt.” He introduces himself with an airy voice. “I’m Krys.” I say trying to sound annoyed but I sound too sincere. “Sorry about knocking you down. I’m just in a hurry to-” I begin. But he stops me mid-sentence with a kiss. I intend to push him away but I don’t. Instead I find myself unable to move. He pulls away with a cherry red face. “Um . . .” I mumble. “Sorry about this,” he begins. “Sorry about what?” I ask. But then something happens. He begins to get an eerie yellow glow. His ears take the shape of an elf’s or a video game character. Then he slaps me across the face.

“What the fuck! What are you doing?” I demand. He can’t kiss a girl and slap her within five minutes. He’s playing with me. But why? My anger makes me feel warm. Matt gawks at me. “Damn.” He whispers. I raise one eyebrow. This kid is bipolar! “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. You’re just so beautiful.” He whispers. “What are you talking about?” I ask. He’s acting like I look different then I did five seconds ago. Before he can answer me, the air around him swirls and he disappears. “Wait!” I call out. I stand there dumbfounded. I decide to take a look at myself in the bathroom mirror. When I see my reflection, I let out a huge, high pitched, One Direction fan girl shriek. My hair is green! I'm wearing a blue and red feathered dress! I have green gloves and boots! On top of all that, I have two big, round bird wings! “Holy shit!” I whisper covering my mouth.
