John
After April 20th I decide to find some middle ground. Before Super Six, I didn’t care much about anything but girls and my reputation. In Super Six I cared way more about more important things like my friends and helping other people like Matt. School is almost over and I don’t know what to do all summer. I talk to Matt a few times. I start hanging out after school. But instead of Krissy and whats-her-face, I hang out with Super Six. We hang out in the shared wing between the middle and high school. Usually Hunter, Krys and Jenny goof around while Rose, Mute and I chat about things. Sometimes people even snap at us for basically having fun in the same place people died. Now I see why the whole school’s depressed.
One day, while we’re hanging out, Krissy and Kasey come up to us. “Hey John. It’s been a while.” Krissy begins happily. I run my hand through my hair. It’s getting kind of long. When my hair gets longer it gets a little curly. “So it has.” I reply. Kasey comes over to me and puts her arm around my shoulder. “Let’s hang out in the cafeteria.” She suggests. Hunter wanders over to us. “Can I come?” Hunter asks happily. Krys and Jenny creep up behind him. “Yeah. Can we come?” Krys asks. “Uh . . . I don’t think so.” Krissy replies annoyed. “Aw . . . why not?” Hunter asks pleadingly. “Yeah. What’s the harm?” I ask. Kasey pulls her arm away from me. “Are you his girlfriends are something?” Jenny asks. “Shut it. That’s none of your business!” Krissy snaps. Jenny lowers her eyebrows and grins. “You’re a biscuit.” she replies. Krissy doesn’t laugh. “What’d you call me?”
“She is a biscuit.” Hunter whispers to Krys and Jenny. They all snicker. “Why don’t you say it to her face?” Kasey shouts. Hunter grins and turns to Krissy and looks her in the eye. “You’re a biscuit.” He say laughing. “You shouldn’t be calling me names. You don’t know me.” Krissy says sternly, towering over the three of them. “She just compared you to a savory wheat-y food item. Perhaps it’s a compliment.” Krys points out. We all know Jenny and Hunter mean bitch but in their own fun way. “She’s got a point. She could’ve said worse.” I agree. Krissy and Kasey turn to me and scowl. “What the hell’s wrong with you? You shouldn’t stand up for them.” Kasey orders. “Well they’re not really being mean.” I insist. “What the fuck happened to you, John?” Krissy demands angrily. “He became a nicer person. Unlike you.” Mute says joining our conversation. “C’mon Krissy. Let’s get out of here. I don’t wanna be seen with a bunch of kids and a spaz.” Kasey grumbles pointing to me. The two of them storm off. I can’t believe I never realized what jerks they were. I smile at Hunter, Krys and Jenny. I have such better friends now.
