Krys

According to B.B my “romance” with Matt is an advantage to Super Six. I’m surprised he would approve of any type of possible romance with Matt. I guess . . . maybe . . . I think I have feelings for him. But even if I do and even if B.B thinks it’s a good thing we’re supposed to be enemies. But I am worried about him. The day we ditched school together Nick and Joe said that Matt got beat up pretty badly when he saw me as a friend and not an enemy. I wonder how long it will take for Rob and Scotch’s patience will run out and they’ll have had it with Matt. I shudder at the thought. I need to know if he’s okay. I can’t take anymore nights worrying if Rob and Scotch will kill him because of me. So I decide to follow the path of Hunter. I’m going to the warehouse to spy on Rob and Scotch.

I inform Super Six of my plan, transform and fly to the warehouse. I fly up to the window and crawl onto the thick window sill. I look down and see Matt backed up against a wall shaking. I see two boys standing over him. One of them is tall with wavy blonde hair. The other one is short, probably about my height, and he has prickly red hair. They both hold black guns. I realize based on Jenny’s descriptions the short boy is Rob and the tall boy is Scotch. “What the hell is the matter with you?” Scotch shouts angrily. Matt backs down a little more. “I-I . . . it’s just that . . . y-you said not to screw with love.” Matt stutters. I remember when in the garden Matt said Scotch wouldn’t let Rob kill him. “Well you’ve gone too far! Taking Krys around town with you, making little M+K hearts all over the place and you don’t even fight anymore! You and Krys just sneak around!” Rob scolds. “Please! I’ll fight! I’ll do anything! Just give me one more chance!” Matt pleads tears welling up in his eyes. I gasp. They want to kill him.

“We gave you a million chances! You tried to kiss Krys!” Rob thunders. Matt looks down at the wood floor. Rob points his gun at Matt’s chest. Instead of fighting, or screaming, Matt just looks at the ground and accepts his fate. I sit frozen on the window sill, overcome with emotion. He’s going to die because of me! I can’t let him! I don’t want to lose him! Because I LIKE HIM! What the kids at school would call “like-like”. I have a crush. I have feelings for him. I get all woozy around him. He makes me feel like no one’s ever made me feel before. He is everything! And most of all, I need  him. More than anyone in the whole world. So I stand up and take a deep breath. I won’t  let them kill Matt. “STOP!”

Rob and Scotch look up at me shocked. I glide down from the ledge onto the ground. “You’d better leave him alone!” I growl. They exchange glances and study me. I lower my eyebrows. “Do not  hurt him.” They study me closer. Matt looks up at me and smiles. Scotch notices. “So you’re Krys,” he begins stepping toward me. I make fists. “Tell us then, what the hell did you do to Matt that made him risk everything just for a chance to kiss you?” He spits out the words like gum whose flavor is long gone. I step toward him bravely. “He shouldn’t have  to risk everything.” I say angrily but not quite shouting. Rob laughs, grabs Matt’s shirt and rams the gun into his chest. “Guess now you’ll have to watch your little boyfriend die.” He taunts.

“NO!” I shout lunging at him. I tackle Rob and the gun falls to the floor. I feel warm and dizzy. I feel stronger. “Krys!” Matt exclaims happily. “You’re glowing!” he cries. I look at my hands to see they’re bathed in pale blue glow. I remember I keep the white gem B.B gave me in my boot. I’m finally glowing. This doesn’t stop Rob and Scotch though. Scotch shoots at me. For a split second, I think I might die but none of his bullets can penetrate my radiant glow. They just bounce off me like ticks. I get off Rob and run to Matt’s side. “C’mon Krys.” He says grinning and opening a portal. Rob shoots at him but misses. Matt quickly runs through the portal. “I doubt he’ll be coming back.” I say looking at Rob and Scotch for another moment before I follow Matt through the portal.

We teleport to the garden inside the rose bush. I see the M+K heart still engraved into the bush. I trace my fingers along the letters. “Oh my God, Krystal! You just saved my life!” he cries. I smile and blush when I hear my full name. “Nothing you wouldn’t have done for me.” I reply grinning. I say this because it’s true. My heart begins to race. All of the sudden, our rosebush seems so small. Matt leans toward me and I copy his movements. I watch his big, hazel eyes until they’re too blurry to see. I close my eyes but I still imagine his face in my mind. Even with yellow glow and huge ears he looks amazing and adorable. For a moment I smile and think about how my first real kiss will be with a glowing boy while I look like a bird. I just keep blushing and my heart keeps racing until his lips press against mine and everything feels right.
