Mute
Nick, Joe and Matt finally all joined our side. They aren’t going to fight us and they said they might help us on Judgment Day. Tomorrow. Because today is April 19th. Everyone is anxious. Krys’s nails are bitten raw. Hunter is fidgety and always moving around. Jenny is as white as ever. I can’t even stop myself from biting my lips. It’s also getting pretty hot out. Jenny finally gave up wearing sleeves underneath her Le Café uniform and started wearing a ton of bracelets on her right arm. Rose declares a Le Café meeting. Everyone in Super Six goes the backroom and stands around. “I have an idea!” Rose begins eagerly. “Oh God.” Hunter mutters annoyed. “Shut up.” Jake orders. Rose blushes a little but keeps talking. “As we all know, tomorrow is April 20th,” she continues. “Happy Judgment Day Eve.” Krys adds sounding as arrogant as ever. “Right . . . but I think we should go to the warehouse and spy on Rob and Scotch if they’re there.” Rose suggests hopefully. “Why would we do that?” Krys asks annoyed. “It’s a good idea. We can find out what plans they have.” John insists. Everyone nods. “Alright then. Let’s go!” Rose cheers.
Joe is hanging out in the tree behind Le Café the same tree where Rose kissed his cheek. He smiles and giggles just thinking about it. He starts looking in Le Café’s window just to get a glimpse of Rose, when a voice startles him. “JOE!” a deep voice thunders. Startled, Joe falls out of the tree. He lands sprawled out on the ground looking up at a dark figure. Rob! “What do you want?” Joe demands angrily. Rob stays quiet and yanks Joe up off the ground. Joe squirms to break away from him. “Lemme go! I’m done working for you assholes!” he shouts angrily. Rob pulls him closer and starts dragging him away. Rob opens a portal of his own. Joe almost forgot Rob and Scotch can teleport too. Joe tries to slip out of Rob’s grip but Rob pushes him through the portal.
Matt is sitting in his rosebush thinking. Secretly, he hopes Krys will come by. He keeps thinking, looking out at the clouds through the entangled branches. He thinks about Judgment Day and Super Six and Nick and Joe but mainly about Krys. He perks up when he hears a twig snap. “Krys?” he asks excitedly. “Guess again you little fag.” A voice mutters. Matt gasps when he recognizes Scotch’s voice. He begins to crawl out of the bush but Scotch grabs him and lifts him out of the bush. “Put me down! Get away from me!” Matt screams fighting harder than he ever has. “Ha! No way you lil’ freak. You thought you could outsmart us didn’t you? Well we’re about to show you what happens when you fuck with us.” Scotch taunts. Matt kicks his leg hard. Scotch drops him for a moment but quickly forces Matt in a headlock. He and Matt teleport away.
Nick paces around in his back yard. He thinks about his new alliance with Super Six. Ever since he stopped working for Rob and Scotch he hasn’t left Lilly alone for a moment. Even now, he holds her in his arms. Everything is peaceful but suddenly, a portal opens up. He looks around frantically for a way to escape. Rob comes into his vision. “Go away!” Nick shouts sounding both angry and nervous. “No way. You’re coming with me.” Rob growls. “Leave me alone! I’m done working for you!” Nick shouts. “I don’t give a shit.” Rob says opening a portal. He looks from Nick to Lilly. Rob snatches the child right out of Nick’s arms. Lilly is still fast asleep. “No!” Nick screams. Rob grabs Nick’s arms and drags him through the portal.
Me and the rest of Super Six run to the warehouse. We all climb up to the window sill. Since there’s not enough room for all six of us, Rose, Hunter and John sit perched on the ledge. Me and Krys hover by the sill inside the warehouse and Jenny sits on John’s shoulders. We all look down to see an unexpected surprise. Nick, Joe and Matt are standing in the warehouse with Rob and Scotch. As tempted as I am to demand why they’re talking to Rob and Scotch after they agreed to stop fighting us, I stay still and listen. “We told you what would happen if you didn’t kill Super Six by April 20th and you didn’t believe us now did you?” Rob taunts. A look closer. Rob is holding a baby in his arms. My eyes widen. Why on earth does Rob have a baby? I also notice Nick won’t take his eyes off the child. “You probably thought those pathetic kids would protect you. Well guess what? They failed you!” Scotch yells his voice slowly getting louder. “Now,” Rob begins smiling cruelly holding the sleeping baby closer. Nick winces. “We’re going to give you one last chance to prove you’re worth keeping alive.”
“What do you mean?” Joe asks timidly. “Kill Super Six on April 20th, tomorrow, and we’ll spare your lives.” Rob offers. I exchange glances with the rest of Super Six. They all stare at Nick, Joe and Matt hoping for a miracle. “So,” Rob points his gun at Nick. “This is your darling little sister isn’t it?” he taunts Nick. I bite down on my lower lip. I never knew Nick had a sister. “If you want me to keep this little shit alive, you’d better help us.” Rob continues. He turns his gun from Nick to the little baby in his arms. I gasp. I didn’t know Rob could be that cruel. “Don’t hurt her! I’ll help you! I’ll do anything just don’t hurt her!” Nick cries tears streaming down his cheeks. “Are you gonna help us?” Scotch asks pointing his own gun at Joe. Joe gulps and shoves his hands in his pockets. “Uh. . .” He hesitates. Nick stomps on Joe’s foot. Scotch fingers the trigger. “I’ll help you.” Joe mumbles softly. Scotch steps toward Matt. I look to see Krys suck in her breath. “Um . . .” Matt looks at him pleadingly. “Matt just say yes!” Nick hisses under his breath. “No!” Matt yells. Rob begins to push the trigger a little. “You want to die?” Scotch asks. “No . . . but I don’t have a choice do I?” Matt whispers looking up hoping they’ll say he can leave. “You have a choice. Kill your godamn girlfriend or die!” Rob yells. “Any other choices?” Matt asks hopefully. “Better stop stalling or we’ll change our minds.” Scotch threatens. “OKAY FINE!” Matt shouts.
“Stop!” Krys’s voice yells as she flies down into the warehouse. The rest of us jump down and reveal ourselves. We step out of the shadows and walk over to Rob and Scotch. “You little spies!” Scotch growls. “You’re a bit too late. Your friends are already on our side again so back off.” Rob commands. “C’mon Matt. Please don’t do this.” Krys pleads. Matt bites his lip. “Shut up Krys! Matt, if you wanna live I suggest you ignore her.” Scotch threatens. “You can’t do this!” Hunter cries. “Sure we can. And we’ll kill you now if we have to.” Rob says pointing his gun at Hunter. “Unless of course, you leave now. We can settle this tomorrow.” Scotch offers. “Or we can just finish it now.” Krys grumbles coldly eyeing Matt. I see a tear drip down his cheek. “What is wrong with you? You don’t do this to people!” Jenny shouts angrily. “Shut up, shrimp. We’ll do whatever we want! We can kill you right now!” Scotch points his gun at her. “Let’s just wait. We don’t have a choice.” John points out. “He’s right.” Rob insists. “But . . .” Rose sputters. Scotch doesn’t let her finish. He just points his gun at Nick, Joe and Matt. “It’s nine today or six tomorrow. Your choice.” Rob points his gun at the baby girl again. “Ten actually.”
“Alright. Let’s go.” Hunter decides. I need to speak now. “It doesn’t matter you guys. They’ll see reason eventually.” I say boldly. Nick, Joe and Matt exchange glances but don’t say a word. “Oh really?” Rob taunts. Finally, he hands the baby back to Nick. She’s been asleep for all of it. I look Rob and Scotch in the eye. “Yeah. They’re not going to follow two heartless killers forever.” I say backing away. I turn around and leave with the rest of Super Six. I don’t know why, but Rob and Scotch don’t respond to me. Maybe they think if they let us win this fight they’ll win on Judgment Day. But then again, what have we won? So what if we got in the last words, our three friends have turned to the dark side and all we can do is hope they’ll see reason and spare our lives tomorrow.
