Antonio walked through the London Vargas estate until he reached the door Liana had said was her father's office.
He knocked twice, firmly and when Leo bid him enter, he did.
Leonardo took one look at him and turned away, continuing to reshuffle the papers he was going through on his desk.
"Remind me," he said quietly.
"Remind me why I shouldn't kill you for having the audacity to be in my office much less my house."
Antonio was shot down but knew he had to reply,
"You shouldn't kill me because I'm the father of your grandchildren," Leonardo huffed. "You shouldn't kill me because I love your daughter and I wish to marry her."
"Just get out!" he spat, not even looking at him.
"Leonardo please, you must listen..." Antonio began but Leo cut him off.
"No, I must not listen. I must not listen to how you used my daughter as your little play thing and ruined her life forever!"
"I did not ruin her life forever, Leo be reasonable! She is your daughter and as such is one of the wealthiest women on this planet, she is by no means hard done by!"
"How dare you, get out!"
"No, I will not get out!" Antonio fired back.
He stepped further into the office as Leo's face raged with hatred,
"I am sorry for disrespecting our friendship by falling in love with your daughter but it just happened. I didn't plan to hurt you or betray your trust. I didn't even know Liana was your daughter until after we were together!"
It was clear that Leonardo hadn't realised that part from the way he looked up at Antonio sharply.
"When I found out I tried to end things, I knew it was wrong but try as I might I couldn't stay away from her, I couldn't stay away from her!"
Leo said nothing,
"You know how wonderful she is, I fell in love with a sweet, kind, beautiful, smart young woman who was my light in a world of darkness!"
"That's exactly my point, she is a young woman! Why my daughter, why my little girl!"
"Liana is not a child Leo," Antonio said simply. "She's a woman, a woman I love. A woman who is carrying my children and who I wish to marry, to bare my name. Would that be the case for some one-time fling?"
Leo said nothing and Antonio took that as his opening,
"I respect that you may never be able to forgive me for this but out of respect for you and the friendship I still hold dear...I will not propose to Liana unless you wish it."
"You would give her up, just like that?" Leo pounced on it, ready to accuse him but Antonio remained calm.
"No, that is not what I said."
"Explain yourself Sabbatini. Explain how you are attempting to give me ultimatums?" Antonio sighed but stood his ground as he looked into Leo;s face,
"Liana and I are going to be together, live together and raise our family. I will not leave her but I will wait as long as I have to for your blessing to marry her. I hope you can respect that...it would mean the world to Liana. She needs your approval back Leo."
"Don't you dare tell me what my daughter needs." Leo said bitterly but Antonio simply shrugged.
He had said what he needed to say and the ball was now in Leo's court,
"I wish you all the best Leo, truly I do."
Without another word, he left Leo's office and went to find Liana.
---
That evening they lay in each other's arms in the hotel in which Antonio was living in and went over what they were going to do.
"I could and would never stop you seeing your family Liana but I wont be able to be thre when you do."
"Baby what does that mean, I cant choose between my family and you and this family!" Antonio leaned forward to kiss her and placed his hand delicately on her growing stomach.
"Sweetie, I'm not asking you to."
"Then what are you saying?"
"I'm saying that I cant throw our relationship in your father's face. If you go for dinners or holidays...I wont be there."
"That's not fair! You're my..." she cut herself off and he knew it was because she didn't know what to label him. "Its not fair," she said again, looking away from him.
"I know its not but its what has to be until your father accepts me."
Liana's eyes began to fill with tears and when one fell, he gently wiped it away.
"Why is this so hard?" she said quietly. "Why is being together so hard?"
"Because nothing worth having is easy." Antonio said gently and leaned forward to kiss her again.
