A sudden flood of memories flashed through me as I remembered each one of them. I knew it to my self that Daniel deserves a chance. For all the things and mess I've put him through, I owed it to him.
“Your love for each other motivated you. I knew exactly why you came here after telling me about your relationship with him,” dad said.
He was right. That night, I was like a student listening very carefully to her teacher. Dad's words somehow enlightened me that everything's worth it.
“Love isn't all about taking risks and doing anything that pleases them, but forgiveness.”
Dad placed his hand above mine.
“Kath, I'm not saying you should forgive him easily for that matter. But always remember, if that person is worth it then why not? It's good to know that you had someone who stood by your side when I wasn't there.”
I stayed silent.
“They say, ‘Having someone is the best thing in the world,’ isn't it?”
Napangiti ako nang maalala ang pag-uusap namin ni daddy three days ago. Hindi namin namalayan na umabot kami ng 12 am sa sobrang dami ng pinag-usapan namin. I didn't thought it would end that way. I slept in their guests room with a ‘good night’ from my dad.
I missed him a lot. Alam ko ako ang nagtulak sakanya palayo kaya siguro ay hindi niya ako tinatawagan o tinetext man lang. I don't blame him for that. What happened to us was my fault.
Nakita ko ang sarili na tinatawagan ang number ni Daniel. Ilang rings ang nagawa ko pero hindi siya sumagot. Ibinagsak ko ang sarili at tumitig sa itaas. Ano kaya ang ginagawa niya ngayon at hindi man lang sinasagot ang tawag ko. Ilang minuto lang nang mapansin kong nagri-ring ang cellphone kaya mabilis ko itong sinagot at tinapat sa aking tenga.
“Hello?” Sa pagmamadali ay hindi ko na nakita kung sino ang tumawag.
“Kath..” Mahina ang boses ni Daniel na parang may sakit or something. Napakunot ang noo ko.
“How are you?” I dared to ask. I miss his voice so much!
“I'm fine,” he answered at narinig ko siyang umubo. It's positive, may sakit nga siya.
”Did you take some medicine?”
Napataas ang dalawang kilay ko habang naghihintay ng sagot niya.
“No, I only had to rest and I'll be fine. What about you? Are you okay?”
“You need to take a medicine,” I pushed, ignoring his question. “Pupuntahan kita dyan.”
Narinig ko siyang huminga ng malalim. “You don't have to, Kath. I don't want you to---”
