“Explain everything to me,” sabi ko kay Daniel.

Magaling na siya sa kanyang lagnat, kahapon lang kaya pumunta siya dito sa dating bahay namin.

Nakayuko siya habang nakaupo sa couch na nasa harap ko. May unan sa kanyang hita na kasalukuyang nilalaro ang daliri niya sa ibabaw nito. I was like a mother scolding his child and telling him to explain what he had done.

“But let me ask you a question and I will shut up so you can do the talking,” dagdag ko pa bago pa siya makapagsalita.

His head snapped up to look at me in the eye. “Okay, what is it that you want to ask?”

“May sasabihin ka noon pero hindi mo tinapos. That time when we were talking with Venus, what was that supposed to be?”

I expected an emotions from him but his face was neutral.

“That's why I'm here. I was going to tell you.”

“Ah.” Tumango ako na parang ewan.

“Go ahead and tell me.” My voice sounded bossy as much as I intended.

Sinabi sakin ni Daniel lahat. Every detail that his memory could bring. It was as if something was lifted inside his chest. Everything seemed to be a crystal clear to me now. Venus threw herself at Daniel. Being drunk was just an excuse of her. Kaya pala napansin ko si Daniel noon na hindi na niya kinakausap si Venus dahil napagkasunduan nila. Venus agreed to it but went behind his back all of a sudden.

“I only see her as a friend, but she got it the wrong way so I ended our friendship.”

Alam kong hindi si Daniel yung tipo ng lalake na walang respeto sa babae. He has actually a lot of it. He's way too friendly that sometimes girls get fond of him.

“You know I didn't want to give her false hopes and hurt her feelings but I knew I had to,” he added.

I'm thankful you did.

“I know you,” sabi ko.

Nanatili pa rin kaming nakatayo kahit masakit na ang paa ko.

“It wasn't my intention, I'm sorry.” Tumingin siya sa baba.

“I understand,” I quietly said. It wasn't totally his fault. Daniel is a handsome guy and gentlemanly that would make every girl in the campus fall for him.

It's Venus. It's her fault. That envious girl! She have had enough to interfere and ruin my life, my reputation and my relationship. Ever since 10th grade, she would always show up her hatred towards me and I didn't know why.

“I'm sorry,” I muttered. I had to be.

His hand reached out for me and cupped the side of my face. I stared at him with an apologetic smile.

“It's okay. What matters to me is this, us.. I mean, we're okay right? Right?”

“Yes, of course bal.”

Within seconds, his arms were wrapped around me as I did the same. It felt like home.

“Kath?” he called, still hugging each other.

“Hmm?”

“About Venus? Anong gagawin mo sakanya?”
