Chapter 18

Being back at school was... weird. I had people coming up to, either wondering if I was okay or telling me what Ivy was spreading. I'd just smile or thank them and walk off. My wounds were healing really well, and my bruise was covered by some makeup. I couldn't care less what Ivy had to say honestly.

I walked down the hall with Travis, we were trying to find Aphmau. Travis has... changed. And I think that Dante's the reason. He's come out of his shell so much and become a huge flirt. I don't mind to much. He just gets on my nerves when he flirts with me or my friends. It was lunch, but Aph said she was going to walk with us. Which is weird because she always does on Mondays, since we all have PE before lunch.

I feel Travis hold my hand. I grimace at him and try to slip out. It doesn't work.
"You okay there?" I ask, almost angrily. He smirks and looks ahead.
"Perfect." He replies smugly. I frown. I reluctantly let him hold my hand until we enter the cafeteria. As soon as we step in the large room, I quickly pull my hand back, freeing myself.
"Freedom!" I yell happily. I hear him groan.

We both walk to our table and sit down. I look around. No Aph. I look at everyone. They were all chatting amongst themselves.
"Where's Aph?" I ask. I see Garroth and Laurence frown and glare across the room. I spin around and see Aph with a meifew. He has orange hair and eyes, as well as a black tail and ears. They seemed to be having a fun conversation.

I turn back and grin at the jealous boys.
"Karma." I say simply, taking a bite of my apple. They both raise their eyebrows.
"What do you mean?" Garroth asks questioningly. I shrug.
"Well, you both flirt with a girl in a twenty foot radius, I can imagine how Aph feels." I say with a straight face. They chuckle and stare at me.
"Yeah. I guess your right." Laurence says, defeated. I smile and continue to eat my apple.

The bell sounds out and we all get up. I check my schedule. Music. I silently scream. That's the only class where we have everyone in it. I go to turn but I hit something.
"O-Oh, um, sorry!" I hear a guy say. I step back and straighten my glasses. My jaw drops when I register who it is.
"Hey there." I say. It's that guy that was sitting with Aph! He pulls out a phone.
"Are you friends with Aphmau?" He says. I nod and he smiles.
"Oh! Then could you please take this to her? She forgot it." He says, handing me her phone.

I smile and put it in my pocket.
"Of course! Thanks so much." I say. He nods and extends a hand.
"My names Kai by the way." I shake his hand.
"Y/N. Nice to meet you." I reply, dropping his hand. "I have to get to class, so I'll see you later." I say, half smiling. He nods.
"Same. See ya." And with that, he walks away. I shrug. He was pretty polite. I turn to see Garroth and Laurence frowning at me. I cross my arms.
"Really?" I ask. They sigh. I walk past them.
"Hurry up! We got Music!" I shout excitedly. I hear them walking fast behind me.

"Alright! You will be put into pairs and perform a song in front of the class this Friday! Understood?" Our teacher, Mrs Strudel announces. I groan. We won't get to choose. Travis raises a hand.
"Can we pick our partners? Please?" He pleads. She shakes her head.
"No. I want to see how well you work without having a choice." She says. She sticks a chart on the whiteboard. We all immediately get up and see who's with who. I stand at the back. I'm too short to move anyone or see over the crowd. I sigh and wait.

A few disappointed groans are heard and people walk back to their seats upset. I finally push past and see my name. I smile at my partner.
"Y/N I have you!" I turn to see a very excited Dante. I shake my head.
"Guess I got lucky." I grin. We all go back to our seats and chat.
"Who'd you get Y/N?" I hear Laurence say. I smile and point at Dante.
"I got Dante. You?" He growls quietly before straightening.
"Travis." He says. Travis beams. I turn to Garroth, who was looking at me.
"And you?" He blinks a few times.
"Nathan." He states. I nod and look at my brother, who was talking to Lucinda. Interesting...

I turn to Aph and pull out her phone from my pocket.
"Kai said you left this." I say, waving the phone around. She blushes before taking it.
"Thanks! I can't believe I forgot." She says dismissively. I nod and slump on my table.

The bell rings and I walk to my locker. I grab my bag and sling it on my back. I close the door to see Dante leaning against the locker to my left. He seems happy.
"When did you want to practice our duet?" He says, winking. I pause.
"How about this afternoon? We can pick the song and practice some other time." I offer. He nods.
"Sounds good. I'll just text my brother that I'm walking home with you." He pulls out his phone and starts to text rapidly.

We walk out of school and meet up with my brothers and Romeo. They give me questioning looks before walking.
"And Dante's coming with us because?" Zyler asks sternly. I shrug.
"We have an assignment together, so we're doing it today and sometime later." I say matter-of-factly. I hear him sigh and we continue to walk home.
