"And how is your day going, Love?' Kakashi asked as he took his usual seat at the bar.
I rolled my eyes as I turned to him. "Are you still on that nonsense?" I asked, referring to his little pet name for me.
"The truth isn't nonsense. You'll see." He replied with a smile.
He never did take that song I sang to heart. No, he took that as a challenge instead. And of course he goes about it in the sweetest way. He doesn't push me or go too far saying anything that might make me uncomfortable. He just takes his time while slowly luring me in.
"So, what question do you have for me today?" I asked, cutting to the chase. Ever since I told him he couldn't love me since he doesn't know me, he's been asking me one question a day about myself.
Before Kakashi could speak, Mr. Lenta came behind the counter. He didn't say anything and sat back in his stool, trying not to bring Mr. Lenta's attention to him so he could casually listen in. Nothing good ever happened when Mr. Lenta came back here. I got by Kakashi's demeanor what he was thinking, and quickly mixed him his usual so it didn't look like he was just sitting there twiddling his thumbs while I spoke with my boss.
I slid the glass to Kakashi, then turned to Mr. Lenta with the best smile I could muster. He stayed at the other end of the bar, making me step away towards him. "Did you need a drink, sir?" I asked, hoping this would be an easier conversation.
"Not right now," he had something in his hands and set it down on the back counter. It looked like a pile of clothes...and not a very thick pile. "Shiori called in and Tamni quit."
"Oh no." I gasped...and I truly meant it. Not out of concern for Mr. Lenta, but what this meant for me.
"Yes," he sighed, "anyways, I moved up Yuna to fill the earlier spot but that leaves the stage empty after your performance. You're going to have to change into this before you go on, and then you'll go straight into filling in for Shiori once you're done singing."
"W-what?" My stomach twisted in knots, "you want me to strip!" I whisper/yelled at him.
Mr. Lenta glanced around to make sure none of the surrounding patrons had heard my outburst, then landed back on me with a stern gaze. Kakashi didn't like the look on his face, or how uncomfortable I quickly became. "Atsumi-" Mr. Lenta started in warning.
"We came to an agreement and this is not part of it." I cut him off, "I am never to strip. Just bartend and sing, that's it." I reminded him.
"Last I checked, you came to me asking to be paid under the table. So as far as I see, I'm doing you a favor while you're making demands. Tonight I need you on stage just like all the other girls. If you don't, I just might remember to finally file your paperwork tomorrow...make your employment official."
My mouth fell open in shock, no words...he couldn't file the paperwork...if he did, my Alias would be blown. I had hoped it would last me at least a few more months.
Mr. Lenta glanced over my shoulder towards the stage, "Yuna's almost done. You better head back to change soon. I expect you to be ready and on stage on time." He gave the final order, then walked away like this had been any other ordinary conversation.
My head hung low for a moment as I replayed the conversation that just happened. I glared at the damn clothes laying on the countertop, not really wanting to find out exactly what he had in mind for me to wear...not like it mattered though...they wouldn't stay on for long.
"Atsumi?" Kakashi's soft tone broke my daze. I snapped my gaze from the clothes back to him. He was no longer in his seat, now standing at the end of the bar next to me. My suddenly rigid and tense stance worried him. "Is everything okay?"
