Chapter 37

"Kakashi, I'm sure it's going to be okay." Sakura spoke softly. She rested a gentle hand on his shoulder, but he didn't even notice. He sat slumped over in a waiting chair, elbows on his knees and head in his hands.

"They just took her from me. Won't even let me back there...how can that be okay?" He muttered to himself...distraught at not being by her side...not being with her. His right foot started tapping rapidly with nerves.

They had now been waiting hours and no word.

"Kakashi-"

"Mr. Hatake? Uzumaki?" His head perked up and he jumped from his seat.

"Yes...doctor?" This wasn't the nurse that wheeled her away. This was a doctor with a clipboard, already donning a scrub cap. His attire made Kakashi wary... And why did he call for Naruto? But Naruto didn't wait to question, he was right beside him "How is she. What's going on?"

"It seems Ms. Amaterasu had a severe case of appendicitis, so we had to rush her into surgery." And that's when Kakashi noticed it-the faint smear of blood that had gotten on his sleeve. His eyes widened and stomach churned, and the doctor saw this. "We had no other choice. Her appendix burst, and the remnants were spreading like a toxin through her body. Untreated, she would have die-"

"And Naruto?" Kakashi suddenly remembered his role the last time Ama was in the hospital. "Why did you call for him?"

The doctor's jaw tensed. "There was a complication while removing what was left of her appendix. My fellow surgeons are fixing it as we speak, but she has still lost a lot of blood. I understand he is her blood type. Mr Uzuma-" the doctor started to turn to Naruto to ask for his help, then blinked in surprise when he was already rolling up his sleeves as he headed down the hall the doctor emerged from.

With that, the doctor tucked his clipboard under his arm and turned to follow Naruto. But Kakashi grabbed his arm first.

He started to tug his arm back "I must return to surgery."

"Doctor, please. She's pregnant, so please...just do whatever can to make sure the baby is also safe." He begged.

The doctor looked back at him, complete shock on his face at his words. Then he solemnly nodded his head and Kakashi let him go.

"You know what I did learn today?" Sakura asked Kakashi when he began to pace the waiting room. At first he didn't even acknowledge that she spoke, so wrapped up in his worry. "Kakashi-" Sakura got up, grabbing his arm to stop him. "Want to know what I learned today?" She asked him again, a determined look on her face to make him listen to her.

"What did you learn today, Sakura?" He gave in to her persistence.

"That Amaterasu has Lady Luck on her side. She had Itatsu, even though it shouldn't have been possible as a Keisan member. She survived all these years alone without being caught. Then, of all the places in the world to run to, she came to Konoha. And even though the odds were stacked against you, no name or face to recognize, three years later she managed to find you and you're getting married. And NOW, she has a rare blood type and we have the one person who can help her-AND he'd do anything for you. Ama will get through this, cause today is not the day Lady Luck fails her. Got it?"

Kakashi's head tilted to the side as he listened to her. She's right... "You're right." He gave her a soft smile. But not about Lady Luck "Sakura, I need you to do me a favor."

"Of course. Anything you need, Kakashi."

"Will you get Itatsu and Maya from daycare and take them to Kurenai's. Tell them it's for a play date with Mirai, and let Kurenai know what happened. And after that, will you get Lady Tsunade for me. There is a something I wish to discuss with her, but I don't want to leave Ama."
