"Hmmm" I hummed happily as I sunk further into Kakashi's arms. It was the morning after our engagement and we hadn't left the bedroom since we got home.
"W-wait wait...did you say married?!" Anko gasped.
I glanced at Kakashi, surprised that they were surprised. "You didn't tell them?" I asked quietly.
"You think they could keep that secret?"
"Hey! We heard that!"
"Because that wasn't a secret" he retorted with a roll of his eyes at them.
"If they didn't know, why would they help you with all this?" I gestured to the grand display surrounding us.
"Because it's just as I told you-" I jumped as Jiraiya seemed to appear out of no where wrapping his arms around our shoulders and pulling us together. "-you two are simply meant to be. And now, thanks to me, Itatsu will have a Papa and a Daddy" He pretended to sniffle at his triumph with a tear in his eye.
"You're right Jiraiya." Kakashi admitted with the utmost seriousness, catching Jiraiya off guard. Kakashi pulled himself from Jiraiya's grasp so he could give him a true hug. "Without you, I may not have known my son." He told him as they hugged, "thank you."
Jiraiya pulled back, looking absolutely confused by his tone and behavior. "Kakashi?" He glanced between us.
"Since I never had anything of his Father's to give him, I gave him his name-or at least the name that I knew." I stepped forward to Kakashi, interlacing my fingers with his. "I named Itatsu after Ita-the man who swept me off my feet at the ball."
"Wait!"
"You're not saying-"
I looked away from them and into Kakashi's eyes with a smile, "Kakashi is Itatsu's biological father."
*thud* Jiriaya fainted
When we left our 'masquerade ball' we stopped by Kurenai's for Itatsu, but she was also in on it and insisted he stayed the night because-'you will have the rest of your lives to be a family. Enjoy this night together.'
"What are you 'hmming' about?" Kakashi murmured tiredly. His arms flexed tighter around me, drawing me in closer as if that was possible.
"I'm 'hmming' because I can." I spoke into his chest, then gave his collar bone a kiss.
He let out a 'hmm' that sounded like he didn't believe me.
"What are you 'hmming' about?" I turned on him.
I felt his shoulders shrug "Because I can" which followed with a chuckle. Even though he couldnt see it, I still rolled my eyes. "Okay, I'll rephrase the question-what are you thinking about?"
I sighed as I ran my fingertips over his chest, "When all of this started with Itatsu, I never thought in a million years that I would find a home-much less share it with his Father-"
"I never thought in a million years I'd be dumped for my own son." He teased.
I looked up at him with my chin against his chest, scowling at him, "I was about to say I was thinking about how lucky I am, but now..." I trailed off, teasing back.
"Trust me," Kakashi rolled us over so I was on my back and he was hunched over me on his elbow. ", I'm the one who's lucky to have been with a woman who had the strength to make the hardest choice of her life-even when everything she was raised to believe told her not to. You left everything behind for our son, and you did it all by yourself-" as much as I wanted to 'aw' and rejoice in his words, the look on his face as he tucked back my fallen hair told me something else had popped into his mind.
