[Chapter Forty]
Valentine's Day had finally arrived and unfortunately, it fell on a Tuesday, not giving the students much of any free time during the day when they still had to attend their classes. However, Saros and Angelina agreed that they would wait until classes were over and use the break time before dinner to go on their date. All throughout the day though, Saros felt as though his face was permanently red as he watched couples become more affectionate around each other. They were walking through the corridors, holding hands, taking moments to kiss each other, leaving him uncomfortable with the drastic increase of public displays of affection that were taking place around him.
He understood that many people liked reserving Valentine's Day as a day for romance, whether it was the shops making money off of couples that showered each other with gifts, or couples that just wanted to go the extra mile to express their feelings towards one another. However, the world of dating was quite foreign to Saros. Many had expressed that he was handsome and it wasn't like he hadn't been asked out on a date before, but it was usually by little Pansy or Daphne Greengrass, two girls that he had watched grow up alongside his brother. And Saros had never felt any romantic feelings towards anyone until he and Angelina had grown closer.
Sure, he found other girls to be very pretty within the castle over the years, but the unfortunate matter was none of them had been in the family social circle, so Saros had never pursued anything. In the case of his family, usually, marriages were almost arranged for the sake of keeping the blood pure. One wasn't forced by the terms of a contract, but it was almost like they were because if they married anyone that wasn't "approved" it caused for dismissal from the family. But Saros was passed that, he had already been disowned from the family by that point, so it didn't really matter who he dated, it wouldn't make matters worse.
But Saros' insecurities no longer revolved around his leg, instead, his entire focus was wrapped around the matter of the date. He had no dating experience and he was certain that it was going to show while he was with Angelina. It made him wonder, how many dates had she been on? He had to believe that multiple boys and possibly even some girls had asked her or expressed in Angelina with as beautiful as she was. He thought about asking some of the others around him, such as Fred and George, but he felt like that would be giving the twins ammunition to tease him and he didn't want that.
He certainly wasn't going to approach a professor by any means for advice when it came to dating, he would rather rip each of his fingernails off with his teeth before succumbing to that desperation. Then Saros' mind travelled to Andromeda, after all, she said that she and her husband, Ted, had started dating when they were still in Hogwarts. And while it had been quite sometime since the two had been in a school setting, they could at least give him some pointers as to what he should do.
This time, it was Ted who responded to Saros' letter and after reading over the advice, Saros would come to see that his uncle was vastly different from his aunt in regards to advice.
