Epilogue
Harry
Taking Bethany’s hand, I lead her up the winding staircase. The same stairs I had climbed only a few weeks ago. I thought I would never be walking back up them again. But I’m glad I am.
As we reach the top, I help Bethany onto the ledge, slinging my arm around her waist protectively.
Unlike the last time we were up here, it’s clear and beautiful. The sun is shining, the wind is calm, and the water is a beautiful sparkling blue. It reminds me of what I was transformed into who I am now. All because of Bethany.
I take a deep breath, rubbing the exposed skin of Bethany’s waist with my thumb.
“Aren’t you afraid of falling?” she asks me.
I shake my head. “No, because you’re here to catch me.”
She smiles, and I lean down to kiss her sweetly. She sighs contentedly, pulling away and leaning her forehead against mine.
I twist my fingers through her hair, marveling at how good she looks as a brunette. On our way here, we stopped by a hair salon, where she died it back to its original color.
“The reason I brought you up here,” I say, pulling her closer. “is because I wanted to ask you something.”
She nods for me to continue, and I take a deep breath.
“Will you move in with me?”
She smiles, looking up at me with her sweet smile. “Yes,” she says. “Yes I will.”
I grin uncontrollably, and lean down to kiss her once more.
“We’ve been through so much together, Beth,” I state, looking back out to the sea.
It’s been starting to warm up a bit, showing the first signs of spring. Bethany says it’s a shame; that we would have to wait other year before it snows again.
I wonder what the future will hold for us. What more we will go through together.
But until then, I will enjoy the present, put the past to rest, and wait patiently for the future.
