Chapter Ten

Toby, The Weapons Room, And Ava.

Part One

Toby, with his short hair still dripping from the shower, walked around his room looking for clothes to wear. He wasn't the tidiest of people, and half of the clothes strewn on the floor were clean, the other half not. The problem was, he had no clue which was which. That didn't really matter right now. He had his pyjama's on and was going to take a wander through this massive mansion of a place. To the weapons room.

He needed to familiarise himself with the weapons he would be using, and he had a feeling he needed to start as soon as possible. Demons had already entered the Hall's grounds, and attacked Katia, who hadn't woken up yet. No one knew if she even would. Her heartbeat was still weak, her breathing quiet and shallow. Jovah instructed everyone else to stay indoors and wait until morning. That Warlock doctor seemed to know his stuff, hopefully Katia would wake soon.

He stalked down the darkened hallways of the Hall until he came to the weapons room. This time the door was closed, but there was a sliver of light beaming from the gap where the bottom of the door didn't quite hit the floor. Someone was in there.

The dark brown hair which usually was pushed back in a slight quiff had flopped over in front of his eyes as he had walked, he pushed it back, then wiped the dampness from his hand before entering the weapons room. Stood with their back turned to him was someone he didn't think he knew. He didn't know anyone with a short 'pixie-cut' hairstyle; white-blonde with light pink streaks, but he stepped forward into the light of the room as she turned. "Uh, hey." He said. "I'm Toby."

"You're one of the guys from the Hall in Aura, right?" She asked. Her voice was light, and gentle. Her light blue eyes sparkled in the light that dangled overhead and he could see the reflections of weapons on the walls in them.

"Yeah, and you are?"

"I'm Ava." She smiled.

She was small, around 5'1 and only fifteen as Toby soon found out, when she told him her birthday was a week away and she would be turning sixteen. She had a delicate, angel-like face, and thin pink lips, a silver ring piercing the bottom one on the right side. She wore a black choker necklace with a dark blue pendant hanging from it, which swung slightly as she stepped towards him to shake his outstretched hand. "You haven't been in training long, have you?"

"No." Toby said. "Not long at all. I actually came here to get used to the weight and stuff of all this...weaponry." He'd tried to find a better word for it, but 'weaponry' was all he could think of.

"I have no idea what any of these things are called... I mean, I know there are knives and swords, but I'm pretty sure they all have a different name or something. So I've heard anyway." Ava said, looking up at all the walls where, like she said, swords and daggers, knives and a weird wand looking thing, hung like ornaments, but to these guys, they were deadly weapons.

"I heard that if one of these little knife-y things touches a humans skin, it burns them." Ava said, pointing out a little dagger in the plastic case on the side table. There were at least ten different knives in there, all different sizes and some were curved, some were straight, and some had little sharp grooves along the blade.

"I don't even know where to start." Toby said, looking from one weapon to the next, each of them looking even more deadlier than the previous.

"You do realise that if you keep training with Katia and Jovah's lot, you will be expected to fight in the next battle, which seems likely to be soon?" Ava looked at him.
