Chapter Fifteen
Hamjin
Part One
Green forests surrounded them. Trees and logs, branches, and wildlife everywhere. This, apparently, was Hamjin. A city in between Kyoto and Fukuchiyama, yet you wouldn't find it on a map. It was hidden by wards and glamour's, no one else could see it. But it seemed beautiful.
There were large colourful forests surrounding the Hall in Hamjin. A deer, a squirrel, and even stray cats roamed the gardens. If you could call it a garden. Jovah looked around a decided it wasn't a garden as such, but a wildlife reserve, a forest. The gardens were actually a forest. Or would the Hall be in the middle of a forest? He couldn't tell, but he knew he would like it here. It was picturesque, beautiful, serene, tranquil. All the things he loved were here.
It was a shame they were here under these certain circumstances though. They had to get to their meeting, with the Guard. He was in charge of everyone who entered the town, decided whether they were a threat, decided whether they live or die. He took one look at Kirstie and frowned. "Get that out of here."
"Sorry?" Jovah asked.
"Get. Her ...Out. She is not welcome." The Guard, Lennon, said. "She may be one of you, but there is demon blood in her veins. Get her out."
They left the hall. Kirstie looking more confused than anyone. "What did he mean?"
"You heard him... There must be demon blood in your system. Kirstie, is there something you need to tell us?"
"No! I'm one of you! What the heck is going on?" She turned from Jovah to the others and then back again. "There's no way I have demon blood in me!"
"Maybe a distant relative does?" Skarlet suggested.
"It is possible. Anyway, we will talk about this later. Right now we need to have this meeting."
"But you heard him. I can't go in."
"Leave it with me." Jovah rushed off and the others, not sure whether to follow him or not, looked dumbfounded for a few seconds, until Jovah turned around and said, "Are you coming or not?"
The forest turned out to not be as thick as it first seemed. The trees were widely spread but had millions of leaves and branches hanging down, swaying in the slight breeze. Daniel wasn't sure he liked walking through a forest in a strange place he had never been to before, being led by a man he wasn't exactly familiar with. And now, to make it worse, there was a chance that Kirstie may have demon blood in her body.
"Where are we going?" Kirstie asked, as she brushed a branch away from her face.
"There is a place you can stay. Don't worry, you'll be perfectly safe." They came to a clearing in the forest. The ground was covered in leaves and twigs, cracking under their feet. In front of them loomed a large cabin. "You will stay here." Jovah said to Kirstie.
"Are you actually insane? There is no way I'm staying in a cabin in the woods. Have you seen the film, 'Cabin In The Woods'?"
"No."
"Don't. You wouldn't want to stay here either if you had." Kirstie looked around at her surroundings. Taking a few timid steps forward, she carefully moved around a large log laying on its side, as she did, a squirrel shot out from behind it, making her scream and jump back. She tripped and fell into Cody, who caught her steadily.
Kirstie blushed slightly. "Thank you." She said. "Bet you never thought you'd save a demon."
The joke got no laughs, not even a chuckle.
