Chapter Nineteen
The Calm Before The Storm.
Part One
With everyone back together in Corodin, the mood was much better. There was more conversation in the hallways, there was more laughter in the training hall. But there would be the odd moment where they remember that Katia was dead, Damon was dead, and Letitia was - well, no one knew where.
There was one problem. Toby was gone. His trainer had heard the news this morning and went to his bedroom to get him and the window was wide open, and Toby was gone. "We don't even know which book the Shield was hidden in, so no one knows if he's taken it with him."
"More than likely that he did." Skarlet said, sitting with Jayden, her head resting on his shoulder. "I just don't know how he could betray us like that. Especially Kaine and Tria, they're parents died saving him!"
"It was probably all a plan from the beginning." Kaine said.
"Trust me, when I get my hands on that scrawny little dick-" Kirstie started.
"I think you might have to join a queue." Zavier interrupted.
"We're going to Aura tomorrow evening, unannounced. We'll get to him there... If he is there." Jovah said. "You should get some rest."
It had been almost twenty-four hours since Jessika had thrown a sword at demon Letitia in the office. And she was still a little shaken up. They all sat in the training hall, on the benches in the middle of the hall. They weren't there to train, but because there were so many of them now, there was no room in the living room of the Hall.
"What was all this demon blood thing about anyway?" Tria asked Kirstie.
"I still don't know. Never got chance to find out before all this happened and had to come back." Kirstie shrugged. "I doubt I'll ever know."
"He must have been mistaken." Ava said. "Like I was when I thought Toby was a good guy." She sighed and looked down. "And all this kicking off just a few days before my sixteenth! Just my luck!"
"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll have a good day." Jayden said.
"Hopefully." Kirstie raised her eyebrows.
They would be heading to Aura in less than twenty-four hours, so this was their time to relax. With a side order of training. As always.
Jessika had her sword, the one that had killed the demon posing as Letitia. She couldn't help staring at the tip, which was glinting brightly in the Training hall's lights where she'd cleaned it vigorously after retrieving it from the demon's heart.
It was a miracle the Kaine moved aside just in time. And she still felt guilty. "I'm sorry, Kaine. For nearly killing you."
"Don't worry about it." He laughed. "All in a day's work, I guess."
"You were amazing! I've been training a lot longer than you and even I wouldn't have been able to get that shot, even at a closer distance than you!" Zavier said. "I still don't quite understand why Hanson didn't seem more surprised, though."
"He's an old man. He's probably used to these kinds of things happening." Skarlet said, finally picking her head up from Jayden's shoulder.
"You know what's bugging me?... It's the fact that a warlock couldn't sense that Letitia was a demon." Kirstie said.
"What?"
"When Katia was still unconscious, Lukas came to treat her, he sat right next to her and spoke to "Letitia", but he couldn't tell. Do you have any idea how?"
