Chapter Thirty
New Leader, New Plan.
Part One
Down the hallway the demon hunters could hear Letitia's voice loud and clear as she shouted them out of their rooms at half past seven on a cold Saturday morning. After each and every one of them had exited their rooms, she slowly began to speak.
"As you all know, this place is currently without a designated leader. There will be a meeting today at the town Council Hall where one will be chosen. There are three candidates, all of which you have to put forward your views about, anonymously of course, and then Lance's wife...whatever her name is..."
"I'm surprised she still shows her face in public after what Lance did." Kaine interrupted.
"That's neither here nor there. The point is, I would be grateful if you gave me a good review as I am one of the three candidates." Letitia smiled, only to be met by silence. "What?"
"Nothing, I think we're just shocked that you're prepared for the responsibility." Samia said.
"What's that supposed to mean?!"
"Just that you don't seem like the type to enforce rules and stuff. You act younger than we are!" Ava said, luckily Letitia saw this as a joke.
"Anyway, let us get ready. We have to show our ugly mugs before ten o'clock." She turned and disappeared down the spiral staircase.
"She must have been talking about you guys because I... am... beautiful." Jayden said with a swish of his hair.
"Can you stop doing that? You're making me think you're secretly gay or something." Skarlet joked.
"Wait... It wasn't obvious before?" Cody laughed.
"Shut up and go shower. You stink!" Jayden smirked and stuck out his tongue like a small child.
Forty-five minutes later everyone gathered in the main dining hall, with its Gothic furniture and black chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. "Is it just me...or does anyone else get the sudden, overwhelming fear that one of those bad boys is gonna come crashing down and decapitate someone?" Zavier asked, looking up at the chandelier above him, which was swaying ever so slightly.
No one spoke at first, instead they looked at Zavier a little puzzled.
"Of all the years they have been up there have they ever fallen down and decapitated someone?" Cody asked.
"Well...no." Zavier replied quietly.
"There's your answer."
"Okay good you're all here. Nearly ready to go?" Letitia asked.
"I think so. I mainly just wanna move from under that bastard." Zavier said, still looking up at the swaying chandelier.
"For a guy who fights demons you're such a wimp!" Kirstie piped up.
"Where the fu-" Zavier stopped himself and cleared his throat. "Where on earth did you come from?!"
"My room...why?"
All Zavier did was sigh. "Never mind."
"Let's go before that chandelier drops down and takes Zavier's head off." Cody smirked.
Outside the town hall was crowded with people. Demon hunters from other Halls, residents from the houses nearby. Letitia headed inside to take her seat up at the front with Lance's wife, Meryl, who quite rightly looked worried and nervous. She could only imagine what people thought of her. In truth, she had no idea what she was married to, but she understood that her towns people probably did not trust her now.
