Chapter Twenty:

Watching

Part One.

With everyone arriving in Corodin to sort out the mess Toby had made; the corridors were alive with young demon hunters enjoying their last day here and welcoming the hunters from Turran into the Hall.

Missie and Charlotte never left each other's sides, while Lars shadowed Missie wherever she went. And when he wasn't doing that, he was watching Tommy like a hawk.

Tommy didn't mind. He even liked the fact that another man was jealous, even worried about him. Lars doesn't deserve her though, he thought, he treats her like dirt.

"Must you follow me everywhere?"

Lars was stopped in his tracks as he was walking behind Tommy. "I'm not following you. Just so happen to be going the same way as you."

"Don't act stupid. You and I both know you're following me and Missie. I'll tell you something, Lars. Nothing is going on. You don't need to watch our every move. Get lost." Tommy turned back around and began to walk toward the training hall where Jonathan was waiting for him.

A hand on his shoulder spun him around and he was met with the steely gaze of Lars's dark brown eyes. "Who says you get to talk to me like that?" Lars growled.

Tommy reached up and threw Lars's hand from his shoulder. Looking down at the shorter guy, he squared up, to make himself look even bigger, to intimidate Lars.

"I just told you to get lost. I have nothing to do with your girlfriend. You are crazy. This is borderline stalking right here." Lars said and once again began to walk away.

"When I find out what's going on, you're both dead." Lars warned.

Tommy carried on walking, smirking slightly to himself. "Idiot." He murmured to himself as he turned the corner at the end of the corridor. Lars was left in the corridor looking around to check no one was there to overhear his threat. He even knew he looked crazy and stupid just for following them, but there was something in him that made him feel they both needed watching.

He would get to the bottom of what it was about them. And he needed to do it today before they leave for Aura.

Part Two

Jonathan was waiting in the training hall, which in this Hall was not a separate building, but built in downstairs. The doors swung open and in strode Tommy, with a smug grin on his face. "What's happened now?"

"Just that Lars dude accusing me of having it off with his girlfriend." Tommy said, shaking his almost white hair away from his eyes.

"That tool can actually get a girlfriend?" Jonathan looked genuinely shocked, but a slight smirk played on his lips.

"Yeah, that's her there." Tommy pointed to the end of the Training hall where a group of girls sat sipping water on the wooden benches. "The blonde one."

"Oh, well... Lucky guy." Jonathan said. He shook his head as if trying to pull himself from a daydream. "Anyway, you wanted to talk to me about something?"

"Yeah, come with me."

They left the hall and stood in the cold corridor outside. Tommy waited for the doors to close before he spoke. "I passed by Lars's room last night."

"And?"

"I heard noises. I think he was talking in his sleep. Then there was a scream... More like a blood curdling howl, but I heard that, then it went silent." Tommy shrugged.

"That's it?"

"Well yeah but think about it. He's pretty fucking weird. He's stalking me and Missie. He's completely paranoid and irrational. Do you think they're might be a deeper problem with him? I mean, I can't stand the guy, but something isn't right."

"You care because?"

"I don't. But I do think that if he's already acting like this it won't be long until he either hurts me or Missie. Well, tries to anyway. Let's face it I'd flatten him. But Missie? She doesn't deserve that." Tommy glanced around and looked through the door at the pretty blonde sitting on the bench at the far end of the hall. "She can do better than him anyway. He's like two feet tall and thinks he's god's gift."

"Someone sounds jealous." Jonathan said.

"What? No! Don't be stupid!" Tommy said. "She's cute and all, but I'm not interested in anything at the moment. It's too soon after me and Jake."

Tommy looked confused for a moment. "Oh, yeah. I forgot you like boys too. Well, get to know her. You never know. You might feel differently in a week or two."

Jonathan went back into the hall, leaving Tommy in the corridor. Lars approached with venom in his eyes and a knife in his hand...

Part Three

Letitia couldn't believe she was so close to getting away from this prison. She could feel freedom so close to her but then it was taken back by the most ugly, smelly demon she had ever seen. After that, there was nothing. Just black.

The Letitia that now lived had no idea who she really was. In her mind, she had always worked for Limus, always helping him kill the demon hunters. She doesn't remember her old life. She had been brainwashed.

Limus stood before her now with a small ruby hanging from a chain. He stepped towards her and put it around her neck. Letitia winced as he caught one of her long blonde hairs in the clasp and pulled it free. "There you go." He said. "You're ready."

Limus had explained to Letitia that he wanted her to head back to Aura to retrieve the Shield from Toby and kill everyone in the Hall she could find. And just like in Lars's dream, this ruby would help turn them to dust.

The real Letitia would never go along with this plan. Letitia would have kicked and screamed and lashed out at him until she knew he was hurt. Until she knew she had a chance to get away and warn the others.

But this Letitia had her undivided attention on Limus and his words. To her, he was God. She obeyed him and worshipped him. There was nothing she wouldn't do for him.

Some would call her naive, others would say she's an idiot. And some would say she's stupid for not realising that the message on the rolled-up parchment in Katia's office that day was not from Jovah at all. But a trap, sent by Limus.

If she had any of her own feelings or emotions right now, she would be ashamed and horrified by herself and her own actions. She would be disappointed but willing and strong, to get out of this place before he could cause any more damage. To herself or to others.

"I will serve you well, Master." She said in a tone that was near robotic, in a voice that almost seemed distant even to herself.

"You will retrieve the Shield and bring it back to me. Kill anyone who tries to stop you."

"Of course, Limus, Sir. I won't let you down." She stood from the wooden chair and stepped forward. Limus took out a wand and opened up a portal.

As it shimmered and rippled in between them, he had a few final words for Letitia. "If you fail, I will kill you and destroy all you ever fought for. Now go."

She stepped through the portal and disappeared.
